I did nights in a nursing home for years when my spawn was young.
Got home at 8.30am, school run, asleep by 9.30 til 2.30 and school run again. That worked for me but probably only because I had no option as a single parent. It's rough going.
Good luck with the new job! |

I had to press reply , you are Amazing SB for keeping that up so long. Excellent parenting.
It can’t have been easy for you.
To the person out on nights , are they allowed to move your job like that ? And does it entitle you to a government payment as it’s very unreasonable of your employer.

The reality is that you could be made redundant if you refuse to accept the change. |

It's not about sleep patterns but when you're working nights I found at some point you all of a sudden feel cold and its soon followed by a bout of sleepiness. To stop this happening drink water when you first get that cold feeling, I don't know why but this works |

Make sure you get shift allowance
Stay away from the sugary drinks and snacks in the middle of the night
Try and exercise before work,
Make sure you keep in contact with family and friends
Find another job as soon as possible |

I did it for 8 weeks and it nearly killed me. I am a light sleeper and could not sleep properly during the day. It really did cause havoc with my mood. I never want to do it again. |

Working shifts 8pm-8am for two weeks than 8am-8pm another two weeks rotation. Suits me perfect. Important is to get enough sleep during day. 5 hours do me fine. Sid |

I've been doing night shifts on and off for 18 years I find if you drink plenty of water bring fruit for snacking on, sugary or energy drinks help some people they do nothing for me, try and get as much sleep as possible during the day best of luck with the job op |

I’ve been working nights and 24hr shift patterns most of my working life.
When you’re working nights permanently you’re essentially living opposite of what you’d normally do so treat it that way.
Have a light meal before work (breakfast), have a good lunch at around two or half two, whenever your lunch break is and a light meal when you get home. Allow yourself a little while to chill and wind down when you get home as well.
Go for a walk or a wee run or whatever it is you normally do after work it’ll help you sleep. For as long as you’re on nights treat it as your “normal”. There’s no point trying to maintain a daytime pattern beside it, that’ll only burn you out in quick time. |
