Newcastle and Gateshead

National Public Health Emergency Team recommending the whole of Ireland is moved to stage 5 COVID19 restrictions after rise in cases & hospital admissions. Big decision tomorrow for Government - essentially returns country to lockdown, with only essential retail open.

Anti mask ejits and morons who think it is about government control, take a long hard look at yourselves. Absolute imbeciles.

Yeah I don't get it. Surely there will still be an increase in cases as kids go to school. Full lockdown for a month and then re-assess

but why should all counties be put on lockdown. A handful of counties have seen high increases. many have not. Why should those counties be put on lockdown.

It's complete bullshit, especially when you see 100 schoolkids milling together without masks right outside a shop, with customers attempting to enter and leave

It's about mitigation of risk while preserving essential functions like education and the economy. Arguably if you have kids in school you shouldn't be visiting at risk relatives at all due to the number of households you're being exposed to via the school, regardless of what the regulations are.

Level 4 or 5 restrictions will cripple the economy

Go into waterford city and the place is a ghost town. I was in there for the first time about a week ago and i was shocked how many businesses have closed down and the place was suffering as it was. Level 5 wont protect the economy it will absolutely sink it and then they will go borrow more money from the EU and well be up shit creek owing billions that our great great grandchildren will probably still be paying off. Thats just my opinion anyway i could be talking absolute horseshit also

Well with the return of the CMO this evening and a nphet meeting with a level 5 recommendation, they have basically removed all responsibility should the govt not agree and the sh*t then hits the fan.

Good move, they can't go wrong now.

Bottom line here is that old word called respect

There are those that respect what the Covid can do to people.

There are those that don't give a fuck about what the Covid can do to people.

There are those that respect those around them regards the Covid by wearing masks , social distancing etc.

There are those that don't give a fuck about those around them regards the Covid .

So we have two types of people in this Country..those that have and give respect ...and those that don't ...and unfortunately it's the ones that don't, fuck Everything up for those that do.

Same difference in terms of seeing friends and family though (ie no visitors or outdoor gatherings at either level), so personally I'd prefer they do a tougher lockdown now and get us back to where we need to be. I do think closing the "restaurants" (aka pubs) will help, as the vast majority aren't following regulations to the letter in terms of max 15 people and time limits on tables.

Well I'm sure the same scenario would be more acceptable when the test for vaccines come to a reality. Wouldnt it?

I never said that by the way. Every person will understand what they care for.

Quite true regards the stipulations..l was in a place last night and everything about the place flaunted the laws on it but a lockdown now would totally drive a huge amount of people to cabin fever ..bad weather.. short days ..etc etc but what's the alternative ???

Great few more weeks off, but if we are bad why not ban Anyone from the UK or northern Ireland crossing the border, they are 3 to 4 times worse than us! Nobody is wearing anything up north hence why they have the numbers they do.

Worst case scenario if government gets into borrowing, they could legalize cannabis just to help boost tourism and increase tax revenue

In fairness waterford has been struggling even before covid. Doesn't help when our local councillors in government vote against their own city. I walked John Roberts sq to Tower hotel nightclub corner and back to sq last year and counted 85 places closed.

I've turned away about 15 people who came into the store without a mask in the past 2 weeks, they seem surprised they have to wear one.

they the irish gorv should get the dept of agriculture to look after the covid..because if it was animal based virus and animals was dieing the movement of animals would be stoped at the borders.

Because you can't spread coronavirus in certain shops.

Well done scotty more shops need to be doing this i am sick of the amount of people who claim to be exempt i was told to get off a bus the other day because i refused to let someone without a mask sit beside me im sorry but if i can wear one for an hr each way to my work and for the 12hrs that i am in work people should be able to wear them for the short time they are on the bus i work as a carer and cant afford to get sick and pass it on to the people i look after also as i dont drive i have no choice but to use public transport

OK firstly NPHET are only concerned with containing the virus... they do not take economic concerns into account.

So more likely the government will use the recommendation to justify increasing levels in some counties.. like Cork which probably should have gone to L3 Thursday.

I could be proved completely wrong but I dint see the government taking the full recommendations.

As for schools being opened I find it hard to believe people can't see a difference between vital education and some social interaction for the kids and having stricter general guidelines.
