So the government stay and save scheme kicks off today to give some tax back if people stay in hotels and spend in restaurants here in Ireland.
Will people register for it to get the money back or will most not bother because of the steps involved. You can get upto a max of 125 euro tax credit back and transactions must be more than 25 euro and you must submit the receipts.
My own view is anything that helps the hospitality sector is a good thing but the receipt thing is a load of hassle and i believe it will put people off.

It's hardly a load of hassle, you can upload the receipts via an app, if people are too lazy to do this, their loss. |

Id be spending the money anyway....my accountant does my taxes so let him worry about it
I do think it could have been designed better if the intention was to help the hotels..but it is what it is I suppose |

Not sure how this is really a load of hassle, especially for €125. Its the same mechanism I've claimed expenses from work for years
Without the receipts then anyone could just claim they spent the money and request payments for nothing. That would be even less help to businesses |

Hadn't looked into it until I saw this thread. We were planning a couple of days away this month (Cork Lockdown allowing). It's something we do in work too, upload receipt to claim expenses back so no dramas doing it on this scheme either. |

Its a hassle for those that are maybe not registered for ros online or myrevenue. I will be doing it as anything i can get back from them im going to get.
Im just interested in peoples opinions.
In the UK you just get a straight discount off your bill when paying i understand. |

Anything that might support the hospitality sector is to be welcomed in my opinion. And I think revenue are making it straighforward to submit any claims - just upload a pic of the receipt through their app. |

My understanding is you just submit receipts and revenue will automatically adjust your tax credits - no need for myAccount or ROS.
UK scheme had lots of restrictions on when and where you could use. |

The way I see it, you can submit as many receipts as you want.. so long as they are not over €125, up to €650.
I'm just gonna download the app, and until January, every time I eat out or go anywhere, it will be 20% off.
Also, you get an additional €125 added to your tax free credit. So that's a further 50 quid or so I wont have to pay in taxes |

I'm not going to run now to the restaurant or hotel more than before, but you can be sure I get every receipt credited because those goverment f***ers will take it off you somewhere else, it's not that they forfeit their unvouched and vouched lump sum of expenses to finance it. At least I have a levelled balance then.
Sorry for the bad language and rant but it just grinds my gears those fake, governmental uuuh-look-at-me-I'm-being-generous actions. We pay for it no matter what. |

"Question in relation to this. Does this apply to hotels/restaurants in Northern Ireland? I'm guessing it doesn't but just want to clarify, if anybody can assist "
Ah, nope. Northern Ireland being a different tax jurisdiction and all |

Yep, will be claiming as I claim on my medical expenses, pension contributions, and health insurance via ROS every year already so this won't be any more hassle!
Always use the tax back from the above to pay my car tax for the year, very satisfying!! |

I know it's overpaid in the first place but it's nice getting a refund every year and putting it to good use |

It's automatically given at source by the provider, so cannot be claimed again against tax!! |

Unless your employer is paying the premium, in which case it's a benefit in kind and taxable at gross, then you can claim a credit for it |
