He has resigned, but many other TDs were at the event also, so more to follow maybe, 2 ministers in the same post gone within a few weeks of each other, but hard to feel sympathy for Calleary, it was a stupid thing to do especially as they keep banging out the "we are all in this together" mantra. |

Isn't it amazing how stupid some of these people are. Leaving themselves wide open to this kind of issue.
Same with the Failte Ireland guy.
Do they or their advisors etc never think before they act.
It's crazy how they behave. |

"We are fucked so.... Dare I say bring back Leo and Simon I know they not perfect but them seemed to have a better handle on it. "
Dee said that to me this morning. As it is a local Councillor will be lucky to be reelected in the next local elections here in kildare as he fucked off on his holidays during the lockdown. |

Phil Hogan (FG) and Jerry Buttimer (FG) were also there. Doesn't matter who's on the throne.. Its a rule for them.. Another for us. They're taking the piss big time |

This.
Dara had to go. It was pure stupidity to do what he did and shows a serious lack of judgement. |

Even before the rule change the event was wrong as it was over 50...if you can have a wedding, funeral or family birthday then why can a group of 50 golf buddies meet to eat & drink...also what about the 105 minute rule...if i go to a restaurant I have to leave the table & premises after 105 minutes...so even before the resignation no element of this complied...the event organisers should also be resigning |

Phil Hogan, the EU Commissioner, was there and seems to have travelled back from Europe to attend. So people are asking if he quarantined first. And a new Supreme Court judge, who was until recently the Attorney General - and involved in drafting the lockdown guidelines - was also there. I don't think we've heard the end of this story. |

A rare occasion but I have to disagree with you and some of the above posters.
I dont think its about thinking they are better than the populace.
Its a problem across the population. People are justifying their own actions while condemning others.
I'm not at all defending his actions I just dont see it as a "class" thing |

He whined when he didn’t get a job, then Coen was sacked and then he got Agriculture! It’s nuts, he hasn’t even come from a farming background. I’m from the west but just to put him in because he was from West with no agricultural background is shocking in my opinion. |

Oh I agree that it's a problem across the population, but there are different reasons, stupidity, petulance, arrogance, selfishness, in the case of these, I'm going with arrogance. |

Would agree with this too, personal responsibility is lacking in the Irish character. |

I would tend to agree. Arrogance seems to be the common factor here. Particularly angry at this latest slap in the face. We attended a wedding last Saturday, restrictions were followed and the wedding had already been canceled once so it was difficult for the bride and groom to tell 90 people that they had to rescind their invites. 4 per table and maybe 3 mtrs between tables. Dinner had to be finished by 6 and room empty by 8.
It was still a lovely day but to see the elite carrying on like this is a massive slap in the face. At any other point in history this scale of Fu*k up would bring down a government |

Couldn't be further from the truth. I don't think I or any of my family/friends expect this from our leaders. Our parents believed what they were told and rarely changed politically alliance. We do question what is put in front of us but I'll bet my house on it that most in that room are old school remnants of FG and the political elite. Some are like this but most aren't |

I do not understand these kinda calls, though it reflects exactly the utterly nonsensical voting behaviour whenever we have a general election, whoever of the two parties FF or FG failed at the time is replaced by the other. Mind boggling.
Anyhow Leo and Simon are still there, they're in a coalition government with the other incompetent bunch or in their political spin language: 'They're in that together' |

After all the giving out about the West not having a minister. They then get Calleary and he goes and does something stupid like attend a golf dinner. There were several high profile senators, a high court Judge there as well. How as a people can we take what guidlines are being laid down for us seriously when our leaders dont heed said rules? |

I agree, our laws around Covid are so vague and lax that there are lots of loopholes, perhaps deliberately so . Anyway, we only have guidelines around Covid. It's the way we do it here. |

there is very little tracking or tracing or testing of people.the ex minister of agriculture should know that there is more testing and traceability of farm animals going into the factories and on farms than there is of people.seems the goverment thinks more of the animals than it does of humans..... |

Embarrassed to have such a moron representing this country on the European Commission. |
