Re opening of wet pubs in N.Ireland now put back to Sept 1st at the earliest, and face masks mandatory indoors from Monday.

Will this bloody virus ever go away?

Never had it. Don't know anyone that did have it don't know anyone that died with covid 'mentioned' on death certificate.

It's very likely that it won't ever go away.. but our only real chance is a vaccine. Luckily there are loads of ones in the make at the moment. Just got to wait it out and act responsibly for now

He may be referring to the fact that in many countries there have been cases of covid being recorded as the cause of death when it wasn’t... But I’m supposing, I’m sure he can speak for himself...

Doesn't it take years for some vaccines? and then you will have anti vac people going nuts

Usually yes.. But there are several in development which should be certified as safe and effective by the end of the year or the start of next year. Of course there will still be tinfoil hat types who thinks vaccines are a big conspiracy.. but you actually don't need to vaccinate everyone for it to be effective

before they finalise a vaccine they need to establish if someone can be re infected again and again. if they can my understanding is that any vaccine is worth nothing

No. That doesn't need doing before they finalise a vaccine.

Enough is known at this stage about reinfection rates to know that there is a very good chance of a vaccine being effective. Its being tested right now.

Vaccine is the only thing that will rid us of the effects of this. It'll never go away...will always be amongst us but that will be irrelevant if we are protected against it. only fear after that is if it mutates and we ened up fighting a whole new strain of it or worse again..it becomes air bourne..then we really are fucked.

Thankfully the virus hasn't mutated much so far, and seems like it is fairly stable. This increases the chance of an effective vaccine.

I was reading an article in a science publication that said the virus did have a mutation, from A to G. The change didn't make it any more infectious.

The article raises the issue as to why this virus was so infectious from the outset? They suggested that it is very possible this virus was around a lot longer than when it was first found in Wouhan. It could easily have caused smaller number of deaths in villages and gone under the radar for quite some time and mutated to this very advanced infectious ability to what we now know as covid19.

It mentions studies at a ferret farm in Norway have shown that it can cross from animal to human and back again from ferret to human.

They suggest this advanced state of this virus might be the reason that it doesn't need to mutate. When a vaccine or treatment is found and used, then we may see mutations occur much like with the flu and flu vaccines.

Simple evolutionary processes.

I read that while it IS mutating, its not changing enough that the vaccines are ineffective. The changes are relatively small. All viruses change. Some are highly mutable and change a lot quite quickly others not so. Thankfully sars cov2 is the latter.

Pubs opening by the 1st of September won't happen. Simultaneously with schools? Not a chance. That's the government messing around, thinking we're all stupid.

Schools are opening up before September this year on 24th.

Yeah those few days don't make any difference, end of August/ beginning of September, that's still simultaneously. Or do you think the experiment 'reopening schools' is conclusive after a week?

You can still get pints up here at pubs that serve food. You can sit inside if you’re eating but if you’re only getting drinks you have to sit outside

I read that it could have already mutated undetected to a very advanced state. One reason it's spread so rapidly and it may prove to be more difficult to get an effective vaccine as a result.

Either way it's not static and will not remain static.

But isnt that the sting in the tail of this virus, asymptomatic transmission, you may pick it up and past it on and never know you had it
