Tbh I think at this stage it's personal choice.

It's obvious people have been meeting all along. It's up to you and your meet whether you want to meet.

The next month in any hotel probably be the best to go to one as they will be extra viligant with hygiene and cleaning. Think like the shops people will get complacent.

I'm not sure how easy it will be to slip in discretely. They will have to record all visitors.

Hotel meets are not advisable.

You will have to give your real details name address etc and your partners,in case they need to contact you, and do trace if needed.

I wont be doing hotel meets anytime soon.

I'm not sure why giving real names and addresses to a hotel would be a problem. Unless you're cheaoing on you're wife/husband or something

It'll be like this in most places we go for the next while.

If you're willing to hide so you cant be traced you're pretty much willing to walk around and spread it unknowingly because you wanted sex. Seems a bit daft considering you could be made aware

Youghal

There was thread on this a few weeks back but obviously now things have changed since the phases were brought forward.

I had been staying in hotels over the lockdown period (some hotels remained open for essential services). They had restrictions in place then but now that hotels are open properly they have stricter guidelines to follow.

So far this week I have stayed in 2 different hotels and both had a "Meet and Greet" desk (no pun intended) ahead of main reception. You had to stop and give them your reason for visiting the hotel. If you didn't have a booking in the restaurant or were staying as a guest then it was a no go.

I was escorted to a seat in the restaurant and asked not to leave my seat for the duration (except for toilet breaks). And there was no congregating in the bar.

Maybe in a few weeks when complacency sets in it will be more lax for people wanting to sneak into hotels

Pretty sure companies are allowed to ask for personal details for the purposes of completing a transaction. I think parts of GDPR mean that they have to keep it confidential and delete them after a period of time.

I'm not going to get invested enough in a debate about GDPR to look up the regs so I'll accept if I'm wrong lol

GDPR doesn't mean that they aren't allowed to ask for your personal details for a booking. It dictates how your information is used and protected once they have it.

Which is confusing because GDPR is for Europe and doesn't cover the USA

It means giving your name and contact details in case there is an outbreak at the hotel, so they can test you and stop you from spreading the virus to anyone else.

Yes exactly. I worked for a hotel group and we all had to train in GDPR compliance. Even the slightest thing these days can be a data breach like for example a hotel guests name and details written on a post it or the list for people for breakfast. There's huge fines for non compliance so hotels have to take these things seriously and protect customers data.

I'd imagine GDPR is out the window during a pandemic. You may have to answer afterwards but doubt you could refuse to give a list of guests if someone staying at hotel was confirmed positive for Covid

Id say its more important than ever during the pandemic to take accurate customer data and hold it securely and safely. If health authorities need access to data then there will be protections on who can access the data, and what they can do with it. Anyone who accesses the data will themselves be subject to the GDPR restrictions and will have to protect the data, just the same as anyone else that holds personal information.

I just don't understand why wou WOULDN'T give your contact details to a hotel (unless you're paranoid because you're cheating).

There is absolutely nothing wrong with 2 adults staying in a hotel room together. A hotel doesn't give a shit as long as you pay your bill and don't disturb other guests.

In fact I'd take that further... If you ARE a cheater with your loved one at home while you're taking a risk in a hotel room fucking a stranger.. and then you compound that risk buy not giving accurate contact tracing information so you can be advised of potential exposure, and wrecklessly bringing it back to your loved one at home... then you are a horrible human being.

I don't think most hotels are allowing guests at all at the moment. All parties would need to be booked in. It's easy enough for 2, but most hotels also do triple rooms for not much more money. You usually have to give the details of the person booking when reserving.. and the other 2 at the desk when checking in.

In answer to op question. I guess it is up to everyone to decide when they want to start meeting again. Everyone has to do their own risk evaluation and decide on that. And find someone who agrees on it as well.

As for giving names etc to book into hotels never had an issue with it or with anyone I've met in a hotel either so most likely won't be an issue in future. And yet again if it is well that is up to the people themselves to decide what to do.
