So recently my neighbour took a large amount of money out of her bank. She was on the way home from town when she misplaced the cash. She went back over all the places she had been but no luck. She had it in an envelope with no name or anything. A couple of weeks passed and the money wasn't found. Yesterday evening two teenage boys knocked on her door. They told her that they had heard that she lost a sum of money and that they had found a sum of money. Before handing it over they asked her how much she had lost as they wanted to verify that it was hers. It was hers. eight and a half thousand. The relief she had getting it back. She is still in shock that two teenagers boys returned it. When they could have just said noting and kept it.
My question is if you found a large sum of money and you had no idea who it belonged too would you try and find who owned it ? Give it to the guards? Keep it for yourself |

I'm always loosing decent sums of money €100 - €200 + cards. It almost always comes back. The one time it didn't was when entrusted my mother and sister to get it back for me when I was at work, strange coincidence that. But I'm shocked and impressed how honest people are in Dublin. |

That's a really nice story, fair play to the lads. I've never found a large sum, but I'd be afraid to spend it if I did... Can't imagine the stress of losing that much... |

A chap using an ATM ahead of me a few years back took his card and walked off without his cash. It was a decent wad, easily €500+. Took me a few seconds to cop. Grabbed the cash and legged it after him. Caught up a few seconds later. His reaction was "oh" and a little smirk. No thanks at all. Ungrateful bollocks.
Good on the young lads |

Back when I was a student I found a taxi driver's wallet with all his fees of day and change in it plus his driving licence. Rang him, he picked it up with a huge smile of relief. He gave me a 50 quid and his happiness. |

I wonder did it take them 2 weeks of soul searching before they gave it back.... Either way they did the right thing, fair play to them!
I found a sum of money in college once when I was broke.... Took me twenty minutes to decide to hand it in.... They said if it wasn't claimed in a certain time I could keep it. It was claimed and the guy rang to thank me... Was nice but I thought he might have given me twenty quid or something |

They apparently brought the money home and assumed that someone would advertised that they had lost it and then they would know who's money it was. |

Shocked they gave it back. Just shows some nice people out there.
The only example that comes to mind is my dad loosing his work mobile phone in 1997. Before phones got real cheap. It was worth several hundred pounds.
He rang it and the person who found it answered and agreed to meet him to give it back. |

"So recently my neighbour took a large amount of money out of her bank.
Keep it for yourself"
I wouldnt give to the guards. They'd keep it for themselves lol. I'd make best attempt possible to find who it belonged to |

I have, bought cars and bikes in the past for cash, normally take it out of the bank on the day and go straight to collect dont like hanging on to large amounts of money at home overnight.
In answer to op's question I was sat in the passenger seat of my Dads car outside an AIB in my home town donkeys years ago and saw a woman walk out of the bank trying to putting an envelope in her bag but she missed and it fell on the ground, she hadn't noticed and kept walking. I jumped out and picked it up and called after her and handed it back, must have been 6k in that envelope it was bulging with cash. On a few occasions have seen people loose money on the ground while rooting in the pockets mainly in bars and always point it out to them...I'd like to think most people out there even these days would do the same if it happened to me |

Went to the post office to collect pension for an aunt in the olden days when you had a payment book the cashier gave me £5 too much ( a fair bit of money in the day) I walked away and checked but the next man was at the counter when I realized I said excuse me you've made a mistake the girl behind the counter said we don't make mistakes in the post office I held the notes up and said you've given me £5 too much but if you don't make mistakes thats okay and walked off to applause from all the customers, what would you all have done? |

Gullibility is a failure of social intelligence in which a person is easily tricked or manipulated into an ill-advised course of action. It is closely related to credulity, which is the tendency to believe unlikely propositions that are unsupported by evidence. |

"Went to the post office to collect pension for an aunt in the olden days when you had a payment book the cashier gave me £5 too much ( a fair bit of money in the day) I walked away and checked but the next man was at the counter when I realized I said excuse me you've made a mistake the girl behind the counter said we don't make mistakes in the post office I held the notes up and said you've given me £5 too much but if you don't make mistakes thats okay and walked off to applause from all the customers, what would you all have done? "
