There is a range called soundcore you can get on amazon which are great without spending mega bucks. Decent battery life also and if you have more than one you can use them as stereo speakers by pairing them.
Loads of reviews online to check out. |

Soundcore everytime, cant tell the difference between those and Bose. Soundcore will automatically pair for more stereo effect if you have two. They are also water resistant surviving full water immersion for over 30 minutes. |

Have a JBL Charge4 and it's pretty decent for sound and good low end too.
It's water resistant and it can also float in water so it's handy if you're by a pool.
Only issue with it is that there's a gate on it so when the volume is below a certain frequency it just cuts out until the volume rises again.
Saying that, it has to go very very low for the gate to kick in but you pretty much miss the first second of any song you're listening to. |

Jbl for anything to do with sound are great as they're made by Harman Kardon that you may have come across in the PC speakers world. JBL have surpassed the likes of Sony Panasonic JVC and Philips. If you dont want to pay Beats or Bose(top of the range)prices JBL wont screw you over. |

Link above is really helpful. I brought the Bose Soundlink mini 2. Crisp quality sound. "
How is it for volume though, for room filling sound?
Or for my situation when I want outside patio filling sound.
I'm not really asking, as i have excellent Boston Acoustic outdoor 100W speakers but others might need to know
For next house, I've already got a pair of Kef that are seriously heavy and I can't wait to hear them at full neighbourhood annoying volume |

Sorry, must add.
I bought a B&W Zeppelin off eBay, for less than £100 and the volume and quality of sound from it is amazing!
Only Apple ipod or 3.5mm connection unfortunately, so not a Bluetooth option OP but the sound is just unreal.
Trying to let you know about all the options |

Jbl got one 18 months ago as a throw away didn’t want to spend mega money so not worried if it gets lost damaged or confiscated
Good battery life, decent sound and easy to contact via Bluetooth. Have used it in the car in Camper in the house outside in garden can’t fault it great value for money and would replace it with another jbl again if anything happens to it |

I have a marhsalll kilburn. Portable. Great battery life. Fantastic build quality. Lovely guitar strap to hold it. Solid switches.. really good quality piece. I'd suggest try listening to a few of the recommendations before buying as taste can be quite subjective. |

"Looking to buy one for a relation, playing songs off phone onto it. looking for decent quality, sound etc any recommendations please?"
Depends on what you want to spend but you wont go wrong with Bose:
Soundlink small compact high quality about €160
Portable Home - slightly larger and deeper sound about €360
or Top Quality S1 PRO - not actually that portable but brilliant quality, depth & volume - about €650 |

This has brought back memories of being in a Costco in Scotland a few years back. They had a section wry speakers in it, all powered on and some connected up to TVs and the like. I found the biggest Bluetooth one I could and hooked my phone up to it. This thing was enormous, about a metre high, by possibly 35 X 35 ish, and conveniently up on a stand. Once I was hooked up I moved into the next aisle, innocently perusing the laptops for ten minutes or so before blasting out "come out ye black and tans" from the speaker. I had turned the volume up fairly high so it could be heard all over the place. Extremely childish but it was hilarious to watch the securiry lads running to get it switched off. They spent a while looking around for suspicious activity. Twenty minutes later when all had calmed down I managed to get about 20 seconds of rock on rockall played before they decided to unplug and take the battery out of the speaker to be safe. I'm a child but to quote Fr Fintan Stack... "I had my fun and that's all that matters" |
