I had massive slipped disc damage L4 L5 that was really debilitating in my late 20's
Nearly went for surgery but didn't in the end as likelihood of sorting issue was a maybe at best with some serious potential side effects
I eventually said fuck it and went back to the gym after about 1 year of on off agony and worked on core strengthening and exercises were my back was secure then went to a physio who tweaked my posture (did exercises over weeks to relearn how to stand neutrally etc)
Over the course of a few months I fully recovered... the disc is bunched as it can't regrow but I've built enough muscle around the area that now a bit of regular stiffness/rare low level pain is the worst
My point is weigh up whether surgery is something you want to do... it could work but may not
I regularly train Kettlebells and run and almost never have any issues
Though I remember the pain OP so stay strong |

The disc has burst and been told it wont repair itself. It is only classed as a minor operation now with very high success rate. Dont really have an option other than surgery. Not allowed any exercise, even walking. |

"Are you going to have a microdisectomy? Think thats what it is called."
I've looked after quite a few patients who have had a microdisectomy. Relief is pretty much instant once you wake up from surgery. Pain is minimal and most patients are discharged home after a day or two. |

Had a microdiscectomy aswell. If i could go back i would have avoided surgery. Scar tissue formed (a chance is always there) and replaced the bulging area hitting the nerve. In pain most days now.
Training is the best remedy i have found. A strong core reduces the pain. During periods of no training i can feel the pain get alot worse.
My advice...avoid until last resort |
