"I see the ques this morning and the mind boggles. Would you stand in a que that big just to go into a clothes shop?"
I went in earlier and the queue was still mental so i turned around and went home. Only reason i wanted to go in was to get the oldest clothes because she decided to grow about a foot and now she has no clothes. I might try later tonight. That being said i did q overnight for concert tickets back in the day |

Not a chance.
I'd get it if someone needed a pair of runners. Like they're on their last pair that's falling apart... Fair enough.
It's like McDonald's. Day they closed their was massive ques. Now there is massive ques again. It's like being told you cannot have this creates a crazy desire in people that they'd que up for ages when they can. |

Same issue. We have kids who's pajamas are halfway up the arms and allsorts. The stuff we used to get in Pennys like socks, pants, pj's, tshirts etc we have gotten delivered to the Republic from George in NI. Similar prices and quality (lol) and delivered to your door via DHL. |

Oh really? I might try there. I hate crowds and the thoughts of having to wait for ages to get into the bloody shop doesnt appeal. thanks for that |

I wouldn’t personally but I’m sure there are plenty of families whose young children are growing at a rapid rate and essentials like underwear and clothes to cater for that reason is essential so they need to go and purchase. |

Just in connection with online shopping
I used to shop for my shirts in Debenhams but they were usually €57 each
I've been buying off george.com for the last year and they're between €11 and €16 each and the quality is great |

For clarity i tried a lot of places online and most of them didnt have anything in their size in stock. And the variances in sizes between each shop is ridiculous. Even between penneys and dunnes are big difference. And im not paying 20 quid for a tshirt that shes gonna grow out of in a month |

We went to decathlon today, it had been open all week so we thought as we've never seen more than a handful of people inside before it would be ok
It was like the fkn queue for Harry Potter in universal studios in Florida except we didn't have a fast pass... Fk that went home |

"No, it seems particularly silly now when online shopping is so simple"
Especially since the likes of Tesco and Dunnes have never closed, which also have clothing sections. |

Tesco Clothes department where I am was closed and Dunnes had theirs sectioned off for a while.
Good luck to anyone that queued for Penney's or for Ikea last week. Or McDonald's etc
Good luck to all that will be queueing for a pint when the pubs open. Let people make their own choices whether they wise or not. I have stayed clear of shops other than when needed supermarket shop, ordered a few times online, had no friends or family over and yet have watched neighbours and friends of Facebook have people over, parties etc and noone been sick. But yet my mental health has bottomed out over the last few months.
Life needs to start going back to some kind of "normal"

Oh right. Maybe I'm just lucky. I'm out in Maynooth and they never closed down.

My penny’s doesn’t open till Monday . I will be in the que . I don’t care who gives out. I have 2 kids . Dunnes clothes are expensive . I ordered clothes from George for my little girl 2 sizes bigger then she would normally wear so she would get summer out of them . And not one item fitted her . Ended up getting shorts in Lidl |

Yep was in the Q today but not when it was miles long but when it died down a bit just something to get used to once everyone has their fill of the the retailers the Q's will fade more like the Q's outside the supermarkets yes there are still short Q's but nothing compared to the way it used to be |

I hate to say it but rarely would I shop locally unless I really needed something that day. Online shopping is so easy delivery times are quick so it's what I do. If I go into town its for food or coffee |

To be fair now, that size of a queue doesn't necessarily mean it's a bigger crowd shopping than before the restrictions, just that there are much fewer people allowed in the shop.
I haven't been in Penneys in at least 25 years but I can understand why people would be dying (pardon the pun ) to get back in, especially if your already low income had been reduced for the last three months and you haven't bought anything in that time. |

"There's nothing I can think of that I would stand and queue for.
Nothing that I need so desperately."
Its easy enough to say that but reality is this is our new normal. In order to shop local, support our friends and families in business and retail we will have to que. Reguardless if its meat from the butchers or knickers from pennys. My opinion is support your local town not amazon. So que i will till i no longer have to. |

Definitly. Ive been amazon guilty before but especially now its important to support local no matter what your budget is. The ques arent so bad. They move quickly, 2m is respected and people are generally pleasant. I do emails when im waiting. |

I never understood why people would waste so much of their life in a queue. If i see a queue i just go away and do something more worth while with my time. We did 12 weeks without clothes shops or Macdonalds so another week or two wont hurt while the novelty wears off for everyone. Dirk |

We definitely need to support our local shops , the amount of shops etc that have closed and will close because of covid and brexit it's now more important to support our local shops. |

I'm not talking about Amazon,I'm talking about people queueing around the block to get into Tesco or Asda or wherever.
Smaller high street shops have much smaller queues and as long as there's only a few people, yes I might stand and queue, but queueing round the block? No way. |

I think local shops have pulled out all the stops and really helped the people in their area during this period
Two of my local restaurants are feeding oaps for free every day for the last couple of weeks
The local shop is also delivering to the door for whatever is ordered and its a free service
People are seeing the value in paying an extra few bob to the local butcher instead of the local Tesco and hopefully it stays like that |

Ok i get you. To each their own though. Some will some wont either way its ok. It just depends on circumstances.Genuinely im holding off on pennys for a bit but ill be there in a week or so. McDonalds i dont eat it so it dosent effect me. Ive done the supermarket ques and will continue to because i have to. As someone has stated local businesses have really tried hard especially with our vunerable. I know i wont forget the kindness shown to those that need it. |

I think your local butcher must be different to mine then.
I'm perfectly happy to say that the beef in Aldi is first class, and I'm old enough to remember the times before Aldi when I was buying from my local butcher a few times a week. |

I agree its good quaility goodman beef fully tracable, farm reared. I just really like going in and selecting and chatting to my local butcher. He'll always throw in a bit extra or give me a sample of something new to try. You cant beat service like that |
