Not ashamed of being white. Wasn't something I chose before birth.
Might be disgusted by the actions of people but I find that it is perpetrated by many different colours of skin, against many other colours of skin.
Inhumanity to.fellow humans is classless, reprehensible and unexcusable.
At the same time, rioting and killing is not the way to react. |

Just to add a little something what if you was black seeing them images with George knowing what has happened through the years imagine how they are feeling I don't blame them for the way they have reacted tbh no we don't choose what colour we are born into but doesn't change the fact of what's going on |

What them police officers done to that man is disgraceful and hope they are all punished accordingly. The rioting, looting and vandalism that is going on is not acceptable at all and does not help in any way. Just shows what respect they have human life and wellbeing is very low. |

By saying you're ashamed to be white is judging all white people. there for you're judging people by the colour of their skin.
What happened, and is still happening in America and all over the world is disgusting.
Race plays a part as does poverty. It shouldn't happen but it does happen. it's happened with the Irish who are white, it's happened with the Native American people. The African, The Indigenous people of Australia, to countless others throughout the ages.
Greed, Power, bigotry.
It needs to end. but violence begetting violence is not the way.
I don't know what is the way, but more violence is not the answer.
Our Future generations need to learn to change. But its up to us to help lead this change.
Too many people have already died because of Race or Religious percussion.
We all need to change. We are all people of earth. We should not be judged by the colour of our skin but by our actions. If we don't bring about change each generation will keep making the same mistakes again and again.
The hate needs to end.
I'm not ashamed to be white. I didn't choose my race.
I am ashamed of the actions of people, of the Hate. By the hate that is fuel to the fires that will pass down from this generation to the next.
By the So called leaders of our Society. pushing the division between us.
Trump for one has ignited the fires of hate in America since he took office, and still does so to this day.
We don't get to choose our race, but we do get to choose who we become as people.
do we grow to hate, and pass that on? Or do we help heal the damage caused by generations past?

I won't apologise for being white just like I won't apologise for being Irish or being a man.
It's a circumstance of birth.
We all have the potential to be racist in some form or another and the colour of our skin is not something we should ever have to apologise for.
In this instance what happened is a dispicable act and should be condemned because first and foremost a man died but tarring every Caucasian because of one man's actions is stretching it too far.

Its a shame and wrong what happened. But lets not cod ourselves here.Police brutality has been a mainstay in America for ever.Social media has only brought this brutality into our homes now.Personally,it makes me wonder about everything else that we cannot see,Baghdad,Iraq,Afghanistan,Yemen,Syria,Guantanamo and hundreds of other places around the world where millions of lives have been taken for no reasons. But do we care, feck no.The rioting and destructive damage is an excuse for the anti establishment crowd to rob and pillage. They're actually only making things worse and are not helping.America needs to change her ways and see that this brutality cannot continue,in America and allover the world. You see one murder on your phone but think of the hundreds and thousands of others around the world that Americans have inflicted, but nobody cares. |

I'm not ashamed of being white as others have said it's circumstances of birth.Tarring all whites with the same brush is just as bad in my opinion. What happened is horrific and disgusting and needs to dealt with. But the rioting and looting and destruction is no better either and is no better it's the act of thugs. If you seriously think it's been done because of what happened I think you mistaken. It's been used as an excuse by many who are doing it. |

Why would you be ashamed of being white because of the actions of 1 white asswipe. This man needs locking up, and procedures need putting in place outlawing dangerous restraint techniques like this. |

Apparently they're blaming the cause of death on a heart condition leading to a charge of 3rd degree murder. My understanding is that 3rd degree is murder without intent, but I could be wrong, I always assumed that was manslaughter.
Anyhow, if he's convicted of anything less than murder we will see a war zone over there.
There will be cops shot on the streets.
It's gonna get messy in the coming months. |

Saying your ashamed of being white is a racist comment. I agree what happened is terrible and unforgivable atrocity and many bad things have happened on history. Bit to say your ashamed to be white is outrageous. Every race has done terrible things. Be ashamed of people's actions but not an entire race!

Hmm, interesting to know that on a planet with different regions and different peoples it's only the white people that have ever caused atrocities to happen.
I suppose there were no genocides in central Africa, there was never oppression of the Chinese by the Japanese. Or that the Khamir Rouge is just fictional?
C'mon man, you can't honestly say that white people are the cause of all the bad shit throughout history. |

What happened to FG was an absolute disgrace and an abomination but just addressing the rioting I think it was just waiting to explode
The death of Floyd sparked the fury that was just simmering under the surface
The massive inequality both socially and financially in the country, then Covid with people being laid off with no safety net and then a callous murder of an unarmed black civilian made people just explode
The looting and chaos is like some type of catharsis I think as it makes no sense for people to destroy their own neighbourhoods
I will say though there clearly is systemic racism that the African Americans suffer under compared to their white counterparts
Not that poor whites, Latinos etc have it easy
Imagine growing up where people you grandparents knew may have been lynched, murdered etc in the 60s with little to no repercussions in many cases
Not that things haven't improved but growing up in communities were this was your past then seeing so many black men being killed by police with a chaos baiting fuckwit as President no wonder mayhem ensued
Feeling your outside the system looking in etc
It's all fucked up |

Is this why this case has blown up such a racial issue? I just see it as a cuffed thief was murdered by a policeman. At the end of the day, he was still an alleged criminal, regardless of his race.
.
This case seems to remind me of the London rioting in 2011. That started after an alleged (black)criminal was shot dead by police too. |

It's a racial issue man because a mental amount of black men (some women too) have been killed by trigger happy or vindictive police who's actions seem pretty racist no?
I'll give the African American community the benefit of the doubt in that they say there are ongoing issues like this that have a disproportionate effect on their communities
Obviously if a white guy was killed in the same way it wouldn't be seen as a racist incident
But the guy was black. Black communities see subjugation or at least unfair treatment by the police as typical so when this happens like many other deaths its bound to spill over |

It's called revolution, and without revolution you cannot have change. It's sad, but unfortunately violence is sometimes the only option. Do you think Ireland would be independent without violence? Do you think the north would have a power sharing government without violence? I mean the peaceful civil rights marches were attacked at every opportunity, do you think that would have worked eventually?
People also seem to have no problem when its state "legal violence" such as wars and occupation, or the ott violence when arresting somebody, why is that violence okay? It's not.
What's happening in the US at the moment is a rebellion, a revolution, not "a riot" as the media likes to describe it as, and the reason they use that word is because it immediately demonizises these protesters, these human beings seeking a better society for all like they deserve. Yes there is looting, by a small percentage of opportunists, again a big focus by media, but they dont show the tens of thousands of peaceful marchers because that is not going to get views. So please stop falling for their agenda.
Where would the world be today without revolution? |

I knew this thread would be here, I knew exactly what would be said on it, and yet I'm still disappointed to see it.
People on this site are so edgy and anti establishment when it comes to their own lives but when it doesn't affect them they defend the status quo to the last.
If you think a building, a store, or a business is more important than the right to life, and right to freedom, of oppressed people.. I don't have the words for how sick that makes me.
There is no way in which black people have protested that has ever been ok for white supremacy. Martin Luther King was a pacifist, he was murdered. Colin Kapernick led the ultimate in peaceful protests and was ripped to shreds by the media.
Nothing changes and nobody listens when revolutionaries ask nicely, as Irish people we know this. Our country was established by violent uprising. This is no different.
Stop treating this as a fun thought experiment, stop playing devil's advocate, stop "debating" and moralising about the losses of multi billion dollar corporations and simply listen to what is being asked of you by people whose lives are in danger. Park your ego and listen. |

Great post and well said it's infuriating to see the media and many other people focussing on the small number of looter's rather than the number of peaceful protests taking place across America.
This clip say's it all imo, if someone is more offended by looting than the murder of an innocent unarmed man there is truly something wrong with them.

Speaking as a person who happens to be black NOT on behalf of anyone but myself.....I'm struck by how angry I still am a week after George Floyd was murdered.
I never have and never will have the desire for any person to feel guilty for the actions of others.
However when I hear people focusing more on condemning the riots and the frustrations that they stem from I feel my blood boiling. I judge a person by the extent to which they focus their attention on the riots and not the words of the peaceful demonstrators.
My judgement of that person is based on how quickly their attention is focused on the reckless rioters, how quickly they pass judgement and how quickly they forget how this all started.
My judgement of that person is based on how dismissive they are of peoples expressions of pain and to what extent they are defensive of the status quo.
My judgement is based on how open that person is to replace ignorance with knowledge.
The list of black people who have died at the hands of police in America is a long one that spans decades. The difference now is that its now occasionally captured on camera.
My judgement is based on whether or not it takes a ten minute live murder before that person ever so grudgingly accepts the teeny weeny possibility that blacks in the US are systematically treated unfairly by the state.
Dialogue not guilt
Action not inaction

It's a racial issue man because a mental amount of black men (some women too) have been killed by trigger happy or vindictive police who's actions seem pretty racist no?
I'll give the African American community the benefit of the doubt in that they say there are ongoing issues like this that have a disproportionate effect on their communities
Obviously if a white guy was killed in the same way it wouldn't be seen as a racist incident
But the guy was black. Black communities see subjugation or at least unfair treatment by the police as typical so when this happens like many other deaths its bound to spill over" more white people are killed by police every year in the states than Black people. |

You're comparing absolute figures, set those in context with the percentage of white respectively black people in the US population. Then you get a complete different picture, a scary one. |

It's been like this since slavery has been abolished.. The war on drugs was actually a war on black people.. African Americans are over represented in the prison system |

There's protests next Saturday at the spire and the US embassy. "
Yeah and all the news is covering is mainly the so called rioting and not the main point of the protest is about its easy to say oh but its happening everywhere but doesn't mean it makes it right |

Yes I am stating the number of actual deaths not the percentage. But if you wish to delve further and compare the number of deaths where the deceased was brandishing a weapon or engaging in a violent act rather than "innocent bystanders" then the figure changes dramatically. Of course some cases warrant disgust and protest but its an injustice to think that all are killed innocently. |

"Speaking as a person who happens to be black NOT on behalf of anyone but myself.....I'm struck by how angry I still am a week after George Floyd was murdered.

Yes putting aside the uniform, the colour, the thief ( innocent until proven guilty ) seeing the footage ....not right ... inhumane to do that ( what ever humane is these days) . Poor fella someone’s son, father, brother or partner, awful to see.
Yes the world is full of these vindictive people, police, army, leaders non leaders creating so many atrocities from all sorts of race, religion and cast around the world that we hear of and don’t, doubt that will ever change.
Do wonder the safety measures for protesters in this present climate...
None the less stay safe and look out for each other.

Of what relevance is it that he is staying somewhere else apart from his usual residence during lockdown? So long as you stay there it's not an issue. Also, the rules were relaxed on May 18th to allow a meeting of up to four people from different households outdoors. This utter non-event happened on May 24th. |

On the 18th of May when he changed the travel restrictions from 2 to 5km Leo said "this doesn't mean you should sit around in parks having picnics. The park is for exercise only. Get there. Dont hang around and get back home as soon as possible. If you are lucky enough to have your own garden stay there". I think it's great that so many turned up and protested peacefully against racism and police brutality despite covid-19. We don't have to tolerate injustice and there's such thing as freedom of speech even during a pandemic.
There was protests in different countries against covid-19 restrictions, not one reported a peak of cases after demonstrations.
The corona scaremongering worked a bit to well on some people.... |

In fact, it was not the Taoiseach himself who said this, and when asked to clarify, the person concerned said "we are asking people to use common sense". I dont see any issue with what the Taoiseach did and frankly, he's as entitled as any other member of the population to take off his shirt and relax on his day off. |

OK but what have you done? Have you protested? Have you donated to anti-racism organizations? Have you educated yourself on the dozens of other poc who've died in America this year as a direct result of police brutality and racism? Have you brought this topic up at the dinner table with family members who you know won't want to talk about it?
The time for online virtue signalling has been and gone. If you don't match your posts with real action, it's empty, shallow and shameful. |

Might be disgusted by the actions of people but I find that it is perpetrated by many different colours of skin, against many other colours of skin.
Inhumanity to.fellow humans is classless, reprehensible and unexcusable.
At the same time, rioting and killing is not the way to react."

What happened is horrific and disgusting and needs to dealt with. But the rioting and looting and destruction is no better either and is no better it's the act of thugs. If you seriously think it's been done because of what happened I think you mistaken. It's been used as an excuse by many who are doing it. "

Apparently all lives matter except for when Republicans protest during covid-19, then the weak must be sacrificed for the economy... and because they cant get a haircut..
In the context of what has happened and continues to happen to black people in America. I support the protest.
At least they have a significant reason to be out there showing solidarity unlike the thousands out in the park and at the beaches... who aren't wearing any masks btw, unlike most of the protestors... but you'll never hear a conservative pipe up until a liberal does exactly what they do, even if its for a significant cause. |

And for anyone comparing one day of a protest out in the open to opening pubs where glasses are passed around, smokers are coughing and thousands pass through all in a confined space for weeks or months of being open, use some common sense. |

Im not ashamed of my skin colour and neither should any decent person. To say what you did says you hold the same morals as the people that committed this crime. They made presumptions based on race and now a man is needlessly murdered. Presumptions need to stopped. Take action, do something constructive. |

Anyone see the video of the two cops arresting a black lad because he 'fit the description' and it turns out he works for the FBI?
Can't be sure if it's staged or not but it looks pretty convincing and it's so sweet to see the pigs recoil as they realized they fucked up big time.

Regardless of what he done in his past the point is he was murdered by cops,ya know whose job it is too protect people. If that was the case they should have arrested him and let a court deal with them charges. Not take it into their own hands to be judge jury and executioner. He's not the first and certainly won't be the last and most were completely innocent of any wrong doing at all. |

"What happened to FG was an absolute disgrace and an abomination but just addressing the rioting I think it was just waiting to explode
It's all fucked up
Is this why this case has blown up such a racial issue? I just see it as a cuffed thief was murdered by a policeman. At the end of the day, he was still an alleged criminal, regardless of his race.
.
This case seems to remind me of the London rioting in 2011. That started after an alleged (black)criminal was shot dead by police too.
It's a racial issue man because a mental amount of black men (some women too) have been killed by trigger happy or vindictive police who's actions seem pretty racist no?

There's a lot more white people living in the U.S
Deaths per million
Of U.S police shootings.

"That poor lad in cork stabbed by that black gang..scumbags and they videod it...and posted blatent racist comments on their social media...funny how there will be very little about that in the media..."
Yeah that was a horrible, awful incident BUT its not really funny in the way you mean it (Blacks making out that they deserve special treatment, sure this lad was white and nothing...)
As unfortunately people get stabbed all the time - white on white, black on black, black on white and so on
However we all should know that stabbings don't get too much media attention unless someone dies
Is this right? Perhaps a discussion for another thread
However FG was slowly murdered by the hands of a police officer over a minor incident, the Police being the arm of the state that deals with 'Law and Order', historically another murder of an unarmed black man by the police
The incident has sparked the biggest, global reaction to police brutality towards minorities and POC in ever really (ie newsworthy)
So to say something to the extent that its funny we won't hear about the incident in Cork like its somewhat comparable to whats going on in America and elsewhere if 'ducking' moronic
But since you're probably a whiney little puss that can only slip out little not quite obvious racist comments i'll throw you a bone before you start commenting more veiled shite
And say that white people, blue collar etc are often the subjects of systemic oppression too
But like I said on another thread maybe we should give these communities the benefit of the doubt
You'd think us (the majority on here being Irish) could sympathise with our history of being on the wrong end of colonialism ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Well said! The riots in the US arent because someone was murdered.. people get murdered all the time.
It's because the police are free to murder who they want and get away with it.
It takes a heavy dose of racism not to be able to see the difference. |
