Purely hypothetically ...
If there was an extension for Chrome (say) that allowed you to input a list of usernames, and then when you went to the forums, posts from those users would not show up for you, would you use it?
Effectively a block list for the forums, as it were
Just out of curiosity |

No, forum threads would be impossible to follow, if I know someone is likely to be trolling or trotting out their usual drivel I can choose to not read it.
I can live with knowing people have different opinions to mine/are arseholes/trolls/whatever. All part of life's rich tapestry |

No because the people you blocked may add something to the thread which makes it shift in a different direction and you may lose out , if you wish not to read what they have posted , when you see their name , just stop reading |

No, you'd loose the purpose of a forum and it turns into a chat group.
A forum reflects society to a certain extent, people and their different attitudes and opinions. It can educate, entertain, lead to discussions and arguments and it provokes with controversy. Once you filter participants it gets quickly boring. |

Some people feel they have to contribute to every thread. Some do it for a laugh, some to deliberately wind people up and some just to get attention because people might forget who they are.
Like others have said though a filter like that would just make threads even more confusing and other comments would then be taken out of context.
If people are posting things you don't agree with then just avoid that thread completely. There will be another one along in a minute. |

Interesting opinions, thanks everyone
I find myself torn - totally agree on the whole open forum thing, but some overly negative posts do affect my enjoyment of a discussion - perhaps it's just something that i need to work on |

"It’s a pity you can’t up or down vote posts similar to reddit "
Then it turns into a popularity contest with people creating fake profiles to give themselves a thumbs up, have seen it on other forums |

As in blocking from seeing certain posts from a member you can't bear to see? |
