Being a newbie, I was just looking for a bit of guidance so I can avoid any faux pas and increase my odds of making genuine like minded friends.

Go to socials and clubs to meet peeps. Participate in the forum, add some more pics.

When sending a message don't just send copy and paste messages to 1000 people, but make them personal and interesting. Also, think about what you send. Would you respond to your message if you were female with 94 other messages from single guys in your inbox?

I never even considered the number of messages people might have received, especially when there are more men than women on here.
