If I could go back in time, I would slap the shit out of the American Ad writer who coined that phrase! ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"Hooroo!
Coo-EE! ????
Coo-ooh
LOL
It's 'Coo-ee' for the greeting and 'Hooroo' for goodbye
Here endeth the Aussie vernacular lesson for today "
Ok. Where I come from hooroo means hello or goodbye, as seen in some Radio National broadcasts.
Cooee is what you shout over a long distance to get attention or to get an echo (very common by the Three Sisters). Coo-ooh is a reply. |

I'm a Sydneysider originally. Can possibly tell by me talking about the Three Sisters. |

I don't sound like Paul Hogan, so people often aren't sure where to place me. I'm definitely not a Geordie, but beyond that... A few have guessed South Africa. Right hemisphere, at least.
The young daughter of an ex was very amused by my voice. I got multiple requests to say "Wake up Jeff!". I was too old and too childless to understand why, which only added to the mirth. |
