No More Messages

I'm seeing quite a few statuses saying things like "Out of messages". Is this a thing, or is it just someone trying to get another user to upgrade them?

There is a limit noone knows for sure what it is but admin have said youd need to send a hell of a lot of messages to reach the limit

I hit the limit when I was new, trying to be polite, inundated, and not yet a site supporter.
