I think most browsers these days have an option for that.
I use FireFox and it certainly does and if I remember correctly the latest IE does too.
Look for private browsing or something along those lines. |

The incognito modes on browsers would not hide website visits from the OP's network people if he is having his connection monitored.
I would doubt they monitor. Is it in the contract you signed when you rented the office? You could always ask.

If they supplied the internet connection for you, then potentially yes, they could log all traffic to your pc.
It may be logged just in case there is any criminal investigation at a later date. It may be logged and checked (but that may have to be in a contract), it may not be logged at all. If the latter though, what if someone on a different pc was using under age porn. The police would get details from the ISP, which would get the business centers details. For them to protect themselves, they could log all traffic so the can pass the blame.
If the bill is in your name then no, they can't.

"If their IT department is worth a wank then no matter what you do on your PC then they will be able to bring up what you look at."
If all they give hin is a network connection then he can install whatever he likes on his own machine (as I understand a business centre to work) the IT support for the business centre will probably just deal with connectivity - everything else is down to the user.
There maybe some limited logging but I doubt it would be proactively monitored.

your work will need whats known as a proxy internet server, this channels all the net traffic through the computer and keeps a log of which userids and/or computers are going to which websites.
this can be in the form of a text file or even by reports sent out by a specialist program, this will make or break how effective it is to monitor. as text file logs are poor to monitor but some software can kick out lists of the top 25 users etc and how much time they spend online, where the text file logs you have to monitor yourself
now to work out if you are behind one of these proxies or you a good way to tell is if you are banned from sites you shouldnt go on.
if you can (id test by going to facebook or something tame like that) then i'd say it suggests your not being logged and monitored (although its no guarnatee as you might be monitored but they havent decided to restrict what sites you goto)
if you go on sites and get a message they have been blocked, then i would guarantee you are on a system that has full potential to track and log all your internet usage.
typically its done in decent sized offices where they have their own server located at the office for storing files and sharing web.
where you might get off scott free is when you have smaller offices or just the odd computer, hooked up direct to a router or modem to get unrestricted and unmonitored internet
if in doubt just do it on your phone! |

Yes there are ways to cover your tracks on your PC, but ask this question
Do you have access to the hardware in the server room?
If you are that concerned about trying to circumvent any possible monitoring then this is the only piece of information you should listen too
"Assume this:
If you can see it they can see it.
Never look at anything from work that you would not want 'them' to see. "

This is a common misconception actually, there is no such thing as "private" browsing since all activity through a browser leaves a trace on the network (i won't go into boring details but your router needs to know who it's talking to).
The only way around this is to use a proxy server or a Tor client but that more than likely will be against the t&cs or contract of who you work for and is normally grounds for disciplinary/dismissal.
The simple answer to this question is don't use your work laptop/pc for anything other than work. Instead use your phone if you can (though even that is tracked by your operator) |
