Auto remove photos not working

Hi I'm sending pics clicking the auto remove feature but at their end the pictures still stay on the messages and they stay on the messages until I have to manually remove from my end. Any advice ? Paying for a service I'm not getting really...

The picture is only removed - after the recipient has seen the picture. Not immediately.

I believe it can take upto 24 hours for a pic to be removed from a message after viewing, it isn't immediate.
