Photos Removed by Sender

Twice in the last 24 hours I've received a first message and it's said photos were removed by sender straight away, the first time I've opened it to read it.

In both cases, they weren't people I had messaged so not like it was an old message they'd used to re-open the communication.

Am I missing something?

The sender can tick a box to choose to delete a sent photo as soon as its first viewed.

Yes I know but this only works after you've seen it - I do that myself frequently. This was the first time I'd opened the message so they're not meant to disappear before you get chance to see them

If you add pics to a message you are sending, you can tick a box to remove the pics after the message is opened. It can take upto 24 hours for the pics to disappear. Or they may have deleted the pic from their gallery.

Maybe they've deleted it from the gallery then because I had't opened the message previously - it was a brand new message with the "Pictures Removed" message at the top and of course they are only supposed to disappear once they've been read for the first time.
