It's not really a surge, it's an endless stream. Just report them and avoid them. I'm reporting at least one or two daily and mostly they get removed, occasionally for whatever reason they don't |

It does, if they are indeed fake profiles.
The site fills in a standard line on new profiles if they don't fill it in though, so it could be they are real, they just havn't filled in their profile yet |

As Ruggers said, if a new profile doesn't add any wording the site autofills it with the same basic sentence:
I am a 46 year old straight woman and I'm looking to meet men.
This is how mine would read, obviously the man/woman, straight/bi bits change depending on who and what they are looking for. |
