If we upgrade again, but back to silver membership, does the renewal give us 50 more photos to add to our profile or is that 50 in total..? - we already have more than that so will we be able to actually upload any more if we opt for silver alone..?

Its 50 photos maximum, not 50 every time you renew. Seems clear enough to me. |
