You mean update your status.

Top left corner it says update status on full site. On mobile it is home screen on the right half way down.

When you write a new status update on your profile or upload a new photo to public view these are automatically poated in local updates unless you have your profile hidden at the time.

Uploading a photo to private or friends only will NOT be shown in local updates.
