webcam works in old chat but not new...can u help?

Hi, I hav a built in cam with my laptop, it wrks fine with MSN and even the old FAB chat but not the new one, any ideas how I can get it working please??
I feel I've tried everything, I hav the latest version of flash, I hav allowed access to my cam and when I click on the webcam tab under settings it is set to my integrated cam and when I click on the webcam preview box my webcam comes on yet when I try to show it in chat it doesn't turn on 
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated, thanks! |

i have exactly the same problem. cam works perfectly in old chat, and anywhere else apart from the new chat. ive done everything it says to do, but still no joy. |

We're aware there are a small number of users who can't get their cam working in new chat.
We're working on a solution to this but it requires us diagnosing the issue, understanding why it occurs and implementing a fix. We will get it sorted but expect it'll be in the new year until we've fully resolved this.
In meantime you can of course still use old chat. If other users have this issue it helps if you'd add your name to this thread so we can contact you down the line.

same issue here-works fine in old chat but not in new-has this been made a site supporter feature or something lol.
am runnin win xp and latest flash player, seems new chat does not "see" i have a cam, as i can run the cam on other software while it shud be in use in chat!!

Just to clarify what you say here, you aren't running the cam in other software AT THE SAME TIME as you're trying to get it to work in chat, are you?
I'd suggest stopping any webcam software automatically starting with Windows, rebooting and going straight into new chat and testing. |

Same problem here on Apple OS 10.6, but mine worked fine in Firefox up until I upgraded Firefox to the latest version and then consequently had to upgrade my Flash to the latest version and it didn't work after that. So if others are not all using Firefox (and it doesn't work in Safari also) then the common link seems to be Flash's latest version.

Same problem here. Built in webcam on laptop, running Windows Vista, new adobe flash installed. MSN and other applications are running fine as is the old chatroom. New chatroom doesn't recognise that I have a cam, nor will it let me see the cams of others. |

same prob tried everything every browser, disabled other programs which accesses cam ex MSN but stll nothing, im using vista, creative webcam. all i can do is watch which is very frustrating |

i know this is probably a silly reply but have you all tried windows updates,i mean have you got them on automatic or manual,as this also blocks any new drivers from your pc/laptop maker being installed |

Same problem for us, cam works ok in the old chat rooms but can't get it to work in new chat rooms even after doing everything that is suggested on this website. No way i'm going to buy a new webcam because it works with anything and everything else that i go on!!! |

yes i have 3 times and so have 20 + other people. some cams seem to not work with new chat but it sem to be a bug which they keep saying they are looking into it 8 months later. frustrating |

dont know if this helps but ive had this prob since christmas and ive got it working twice by accident, the only time it worked for me is when my msn freezed up? ive tried deleting msn but still doesnt work so dont get it? |

peeps having problem with cm in new chat i think cracked it, msg me got mine working after a year. they didnt help or i dont think they were even looking into solving it so im not gonna tell them |

We ended up re-installing the OS on the Lappy we use for fab chat. There is an issue with a certain version of flash plugin which was upgraded over the top but left some issues behind. |

OK- ill tell you all well i looked into A few different options but the one that sorted it for me was using google chrome and before you load up fab plug your cam in (AND) also plug in your mic jack. i think the new version has issues regarding audio and video working together with some cams My cam only worked when my mic was plugged in. if you dont have mic all i can say is to disable the audio/mic in your settings. if you have msn you can do it in there settings - tools - setup audio video - disable. but make sure you do before you load fab up.
be good to know if my solution worked for you too x happy swinging |

Just plugged in my hands free headphones from phone as dont have a norm mic and solved problem straight away.
BTW though my cam used to work to begin with then stop mayb 3 4 weeks ago and i have never used a mic till now

Have an ACER laptop working of windows 7, when i allow cam it only comes up as a tiny cam in the box and other people cannot see me, aaaggghhh can anyone out there help please please please

We fixed it by only clicking the medium sized cams link when activating the chat room. It doesn't work on large cams x |

We are running windows 7 with an external webcam which is brand new. The webcam was working perfectly fine in new chat until today and now its not. Still works fine in old chat, any ideas anyone? We have tried re-installing camn used different browser and checked small, medium and large cam rooms with no success, help!! |

GUYS GUYS GUYS ill solve it for ya, use google chrome well i do but plug your cam in obviously before you open fab up BUT also plug your mic in if you have one or if not plug some headphones in and it should work. i think newchat has probs with some cams working without audio. let me know how you get on, |

We uninstalled the flash 64bit, via control panel, an not use the 64bit IE
Seems to work fine with IE 32bit.

I was having the same prob with my acer laptop as it doesn't have a built in mic, once I connect a mic it's fine so I'm assuming it's a programming fault with the autodetect system that the site is using for the cams and mics.
If the software can't detect a mic it's stopping the cam from working by the looks of it, could be a good place for fab to start looking but that's just my opinion as it doesn't matter if I use IE or firefox so rules out the web browser being used as it's the same with both.
Hope this sheds some light and gets you all cam happy again  |

I wonder whether those cams that have inbuilt mics work, if recognised by the O/S, but those that don't need "assistance"? It might be worth checking that in Start - Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices - Audio Tab (or equivalent) that a device is selected under Sound Recording. |

We'll have a look at this in the coming week all this feedback about the cams is excellent info to help us diagnose + resolve this issue
