Hi. Is there a way to stop "new verification" being displayed in friends updates. I've noticed that even if the verification isn't displayed that still says new verification in updates.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

It only shows when you display them, although if its your first there is something comes up along the lines of 'XXX has received their first verification'.

Think sometimes it says "XXX has received a new verification" as I've seen this for other people before they have displayed the veri.

Could be because the other party doesn't want the verification shown lol

Nope, only shows when they display one.
