Age limits

If your account has an age range ...eg 40-60...why do users ages outside this range view/message you ??

Because you don't have your mail filters set to prevent them.

Any age can view your profile but only those within your preferred age range can message you so long as you have the filters set

because they wouldn't know your age range unless they viewed you...

message wise you probably haven't set the filter correctly or have initiated a conversation previously with them.
