lost pictures

Have obviousy sat on my phone and pressed something ,have lost / deleted my pictures any suggestions as to reinsatating them or are they gone for ever and I will need to take some new ones?

Do they not go into some sort of deleted files folder or trash?

most android and iphones autobackup to some sort of cloud service these days
