Hi,

I’ve been a user of this site for a while now. I’m asking if you intend to opt-out of the Phorm Webwise system that is going to be installed on several ISP systems in the UK in the near future?

All of the information I place on this site is for use by those on this site. The trouble with Phorm’s Webwise system is that Phorm sees what other site users see. I don’t wish this information to be intercepted and analysed by Phorm. As you don’t use SSL across your website, that’s exactly what Phorm will do unless you opt-out your domains.

The procedure is quite simple, and just involves contacting Phorm and getting them to add your domain to its exclusion list (don’t forget to request wildcard subdomains). See:

http://www2.bt.com/static/i/btretail/webwise/help.html#how-do-i-prevent-webwise-from-scanning-my-site

Regards,

Philip

How would you know - me and half the London fire brigade were fighting your flaming fanny fire - each and everyone of the boys in blue couldn't believe their eyes.

They would never have contained the flames without your regular bladder movements - another thing to behold!!!

PS did you ever manage to remove that helmet ?

LOL at above! Makes you both sound tempting.

But back OT, I'd definitely second this request and I'm sure so would many here if they were clued up!

But still there is hope, the EU is having a go at the UK government over this and I'm glad for once to see them doing something useful!

We couldn't give a bugger who sees what. At the end of the day this is the internet - the only material we put on is material that we wouldn't be fussed about anyone else seeing ...

That’s not quite the way it works, they don’t just look at what you put out, but where you go and what you look at, when you look at it, and with your ISP compile a profile against your account.

In other words they ‘could’ know the name and address of nearly every swinger in the country just by the sites they logon to!

No more anonymity ever, without the use of complicated 3rd party anonymisors.

OK, I’m painting a bleak picture, but is ‘everyone’ happy with that?

In a word ‘Advertising’.

Specifically targeted advertising, if you are looking at car sites or looking up valuations, all those little adverts on your screen suddenly become car related, same for insurance, or holidays etc.

They could even take a good guess at the type and cost of the car you might be interested in. Think what the advertisers would pay for that type of pinpoint accuracy?

Milton Keynes

So every site I looked at could be framed with adverts for sexy swingers, coronation chicken sandwiches, South African Pinotage or 1970's rock LP's?

Has its benefits.....
