Disappearing Friend and conversation thread

I started a great conversation and interaction with a new couple. We messaged all evening and also verified as friends and I also fabbed pictures. We exchanged a picture in our conversation also.

This morning on checking my account the conversation has gone, no details of the pictures I fabbed and also not on my friends list.

Have they deactivated or been deleted?
