Can I ask on behalf of a new member, do they have to insert a code before private messaging?

A new member was a bit concerned if it was spam!

You can private message anybody who allows it. I assume you mean by private message you mean chat rooms? when I am in chat rooms the only people I allow to private message me are friends.

I remember having to type a catchpha code a couple times when I first opened my account. Not had to do it since.

Don't worry, this is normal and we do this to protect everyone on the site. After a few days of using the site normally you'll probably not see this message again. We hope that having a site free of spam means this small inconvenience is worth it
