Deleting a message sent in error

Hi all

I sent a message in error and would like to know how to delete it without the person reading it. If I simply delete at my end before they read it, will that work?

Reminds me of my friend's mother who said 'Oh I just take the plug out quickly on the computer' re sending a 'misjudged' message
