It depends how you access the site.
On my tablet when I view the profile there is a friends request option on the left.
I think on smaller screens it may be under the 3 little dots.

Well yea I would say you shouldn’t be sending a friend request unless the person has indicated they want you too, friend requests sent without any chat at all for us just gets you blocked.
