last night i was reading my read messages when i must have done something without realising ..like delete all???...poof...All read messages have gone ... but how can i accidently delete all read messages without a "do you really want to delete all" warning message???

If you can remember the profiles you were chatting to, msg them again and all your msgs received and sent to them will appear again

You should be able to access the message threads from your sent box

Done it twice with the lappy trackpad but as said above if you are on the new mailbox you can go into sent messages message them again and when they reply the message string pops back up.
