Copied Profile

What do you if someone copies your profile text "word for word" - one such individual I've reported 3 times now, the person has only been on the site a few months, and rather than use their own initiative and creativity has somehow got the notion the way to be successful is to use my entire profile text. And then block me from seeing his profile, which tells me its intentional (a friend alerted me and I saw the individual's profile through the friend's).

What now gets my goat is I have reported this 3 times, nothing has been done, the profile text has remained and I have got no reply, as if "yes, its perfectly okay". If you can't use someone else's pictures, why use their profile text??

Read your profile, was about to copy it word for word and post as mine - Mind you that might shock some of the ladies when I turn up for the meet...........I'm white you see.....

Seriously though, I wouldn't worry about it personally as if the guy hasn't got the brains to write his own profile, he sure as hell ain't going to get very far when he starts answering any messages he may recieve, and I'm pretty sure that most people wouldn't have a clue that your profile has been copied.

I'd just feel sorry for whoever copied your profile and move on.

"Change your profile and block him?"

Ahabs took time and patience to write his profile and get it the way he wanted it... why should he have to rewrite his because someone is to lazy to write there own....

"Change your profile and block him?"

Errr... why???

If someone starts being a nuisance on the phone, I don't change my number and move on - I report to the relevant authorities so they don't get away with it.

If a kid is being bullied in school, you don't change schools and "run away" - you report the bully and send a message it won't be tolerated.

If I change my profile and someone copies the new one, then what? Change my profile again? I might as well open a "profile writing" service and charge it to Fabs per account.

Still a bit surprised there's no response from admin, despite my having reported the profile 4 times now.

Its been 2 months since it first came to my attention and having it seen it for myself, I reported it (worse still the person blocked me thinking I would not find out).

Two month's and 4 reports later, the profile is still untouched, no response from admin on what can or can't be done and no comment on this thread either: Feels like a massive "sod off and go bother someone else".

What exactly can admin do?

How would they prove who copied what?

If a picture has been copied from a profile, that can be proved (the genuine profile will have the original) but how would admin say who had what text first?

Surely its just easier to be flattered by it…. maybe even add something in your profile to make a positive about it…. your profile must be that good that others are jealous.

I had that a lot last time I was on here .... some took bits of mine ... and one the whole thing and one still has it now lol

I guess its flattering they think it was good enough to copy.

had it happen to me right down to the spelling mistakes lol but in my case once the guy realised I knew he changed quite a bit of it - I just took it as flattery and if it worked for him good luck - my profile is still me regardless of what other people do

Admin can check the age of both profiles... seeing as the other person has only been on the site a few months, I've been on for years - also I imagine there's some "backup" facility for member data including profile text - so the last backup where a profile got changed will flag: compare the two dates for both profiles and presto.

From what ive seen answered before, it doesnt work like that. If the profile was one day old, we have been on here 3+ years, could still copy it and use it as our own.

Take it as a compliment and move on.

Right, last time I looked copying people's profiles was against the rules. A simple reply to say "Actually, this is not against the rules" would have been nice, rather than wondering for 2 months.
