If you plan to drive through Paris, Lyon and Grenoble between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday.
You have to display a Crit'Air sticker (anti-pollution)
Your satnav will almost certainly route you through Paris and Lyon if you use toll routes and are going to the deep south.
The sticker can be obtained from the url below, it costs a few quid and they will get it to you within a week.
Happy Holidays.

Chances of getting caught I would imagine are slim. We went 2 years without displaying our insurance on the windowscreen of our French car and were only caught in Reims town centre(60 euro fine) when on holiday.
Down round the Cap most cars don’t have the emissions sticker.

Perhaps it's because they are only required in Paris, Lyon and Grenoble.

If your SatNav directs you through Paris or Lyon when en route to the Midi, I would buy a new one..!
Both cities have perfectly good ring roads to avoid the area affected by the restrictions.
But you're right to draw people's attention to the system.
My understanding is that you would be very lucky to avoid a fine as the affected roads are monitored by cameras, so no escape from big brother.
I'm a bit miffed that I can't take either of my motor bikes into Paris. You can't even buy a sticker for them a they are over 10 years old.

I'm a frequent driver, if your heading north towards your ferries or tunnel routes and come close to Paris. You only need the sticker if you go inside the orbital road, the boulevard peripherique. I'm often on the A86 and this isn't affected by the crit air sticker zone. |

It's changed so much in the last 3 years. They even have Max Height Barriers which regular car and roofbox can fall foul of. They were designed to stop commercial traffic at certain times on both the inner and outer circular.

"We have just come down to Cap from Zeebrugge, our Sat NAv took us round Lyon on the E15. Which is just as well as going thro Lyon is a nightmare. We have the sticker just in case tho."
For £4 it's just worth doing. |

Just to note further, the cameras are ANPR and matched against the register of vehicles that 'have' a sticker - if you don't have one then under the EU Cross-Border Enforcement Directive you will simply get the fine at home.

You do not have to display your insurance if your car is British registered but French registered cars have the CT and insurance on display on the windscreen.
