Planning to cycle Cherbourg to Caen and take in the D Day beaches. Any tips / ideas, places to see or stay etc.

Pays de la Loire -Normandie -Brittany borderFrance

Try Bayeux. Theres a few places to visit there and of coarse the landing beaches are not far away.

Thanks. I want to take in all five beaches and Pegasus bridge. Bayeux is a good shout and I will probably spend a night there. You guys are about 70 miles from Caen which at my age is a day there and a day back.

Get yourself a copy of 'Major and Mrs Holts pocket battlefield guide' of D Day. That has a good account of what to see and where. also gives you the roads to take. there's a 'Normandy' one in the same series but thats more inland. You could always try "Walking D Day by Paul Reed.Loads of info in there too.

You should try and get to the Merville Battery too. Thats further up the coast from Pegasus.

Oh and go with Brittany Ferries. You can sail into Cherbourg peddle down to Caen and sail back from there. But you probably know that already.

Thanks. I’ll cycle to Merville. Cherbourg to Caen was my preferred choice but in and out of Caen works better for timing. Thanks again
