It's a nice town to be based round. Depends if you're going to be driving or using public transport. If you want to be close to the sea it's worth bearing in mind Narbonne-plage is about 20km away from Narbonne itself. |

"Hi baron many thanks for the info would you say Perpignan is a better place to holiday" I don't know Perpignan so well but it's generally bigger, more of a uni town etc. Personally I think the scenery on the mountainous coastal stretch between perpignan and Spain is great, but the Corbières area round Narbonne is really nice also, it depends what you want out of your holiday, really.

There's virtually un broken beach from Perpignan down to Argeles Sur mare.
There's a nudist beach just up from Argeles and a..... Wilder beach shall we say on the other side of the river tech. I go there often in the summer as there's no-one to tell me off about my dog... I've just got to avoid the fruity fellas, they're nice enough just not my thing.
Inland you've got mountains, rivers vineyards, some lovely little villages and please remember that the Languedoc is the largest wine producing region in the world.
Personally I'd avoid coulior like the plague when the sun's out, just too busy.
Port vondre is nicer anyway.
Just over the border you've got Europe's largest brothel, cheap fags and booze. I play "hooker spotting" on the N11 if I'm going to girona airport or to buy fuel at 1.15 euros a litre.
I defy anyone to eat and drink 30 euros in any restaurant in this area of Spain. 20 euros menu del dia gets you three courses plus wine plus coffee plus degestife.
The French holiday season only lasts six weeks including the last two weeks of July and all of August. It gets busy!
The 1st of September however and it's like somebody has flicked a switch. Everybody's gone home!
