Hi,
We had an apartment booking made in Cap D’Agde for august next year through booking.com
We got it at a reasonable price.
But now the apartment manager has said there is ‘water damage’ and so the apartment will be unusable and has asked me to cancel.
To me this sounds like an attempt at profiteering. We cancel and they resell at multiples of what we paid for it. We have no chance of finding new accommodation now for reasonable money.
What are your thoughts? Have I any recourse? |

I would ask the owner to send pictures as proof and for details of their insurance company. . In addition contact booking dot com.
I use the site referred to and would not risk my reputation my cancelling a booking in favour of a higher priced one. |

Sounds like complete nonsense on the part of the owner. Water leaks are all too common in the apartments unfortunately but there is no way a leak now would prevent an apartment being rented anytime next year.
We have a place in Port Nature and had a water leak from the apartment above 4 years ago. The Syndic (management company) had it sorted in a matter of days. Just before Covid a neighbouring apartment also had bad water damage but again it was sorted very quickly. |

Thanks all. I have asked for proof of damage and have been in touch with booking.com
I definitely will not cancel, but would be concerned that if we got out there, he will not allow us to stay for spite.
Really really unimpressed with this carry on. |

Would suggest going through proper lending agencies such as Peng France, that way you will not be disappointed as booking.com is just a platform and does not provide any assurance for the customer. |

"Will try peng . We always use peng France, never had a problem in 10 years, always helpful, and cuts out the middle man ie booking.com etc, enjoy x "
Yes we would agree with that.
We used a different one for our first couple of visits (I won't name them) but once we booked with Peng we didn't look anywhere else. |

"Is staying outside the gates as good as staying inside? Can you bring and store your stuff before stripping? " . The advantsge of staying outside the gate is that accommodation is about half the price of that inside the gate . However you miss the convenience of having everything close by and walking home at 2 pm in the morning is not much fun. There are lockers where you can store your stuff. Remember there is no such thing as a taxi rank in the village.

"This sounds typical of the French. I find them extremely untrustworthy and really bad liers. Customer service doesn't exist either. Greedy too. "
And that sounds like a typical Englishman living in a foreign country but each opinion is valid I guess and my humble opinion is the polar opposite of yours.

The only thing I can agree with is that the French are bad liers [sic]. The English are MUCH better at it... |
