may i start by saying no meercats were hurt in this true encounter.

On a sunny afternoon on cap d'agde beach- me and the other half chilling - the couple close by were gently stroking one another- they noticed me and smile and carry on.

A meercat arrives plonks his towel close to them and starts stroking his sausage. Once the couple notice him they stop. The meercat thinks this is a sign for him to stand up at a angle so they can see his well crafted stroking.

For some reason I decided to sit up crossed my legs and looked into his face- he carried on- the other couple glance at me bewildered- I reach into our rucksack and pull out the crisps and start munching- unsure if it was me watching or the favour of the crisps but the stoking did not have the same effect on his sausage and went quite limp- at this stage the other couple are trying not to laugh out loud.

So next time walkers ask for a new favour crisps try unwanted meercat-

disclaimer this may not work on all meercats- popcorn or other snacks may be just as effective

Near Bergerac

A few years ago we had a similar encounter but the meerkats were actually standing on our towel watching the couple nearby.

This pissed us off greatly.

The sun has gone in so our parasol was lying on the sand within arms reach.

So I felt the need to rearrange our bags etc that we’re lying in our towel. The parasol clearly wasn’t in the right place, so I tried several other options.

Now think “Carry On” films where Kenneth Williams would be walking through a crowd carrying a ladder.

Luckily the Kats saw the funny side and moved away.

Sometimes Becky starts giggling while pointing at their pride a joy, which has a similar affect.

Cambridgeshire

We generally take a baguette with us for lunch, and I've found over the years that it makes things easier if I take a bread knife as well.

We had an over attentive guy, but he made a swift retreat when I got it out of our bag. Em reckons it was just that he realised we were starting on lunch, but I think a six inch blade may have had an effect as well.
