Any suggestions on the best area's that are good for camping.
Ideally not more than a 5hr drive from port's.
Clean, and friendly not massive commercial site's more rural beautiful and quiet close to some open water swimming locations please.

I tend to book campsites via the ACSI websites.
Everything you need to know is on their pages plus, if you are a member and it is off season, you get a good discount. |

'Ile de Re' is a small island just off the La Rochelle harbour and it has some excellent camping sites. It's only accessible by road when the tide is out.
One of the villages is amusingly called 'Ars en Re' but it's got really nice campsites, good restaurants, fantastic beaches and a lovely little lighthouse. |

Looks fantastic,I remember a recent edition of The Tour De France done a loop around the island and I remember it looked stunning.

"There are a couple of campsite owners on Fab in Normandy and Pays de la Loire. Lovely historic areas with forests, lakes and countryside."
To be fair having traveled around France for both work and pleasure I’d say that the whole of France is covered in historical places and beautiful countryside but I agree about supporting fab members and their business.

Not been for a while then? There's a massive bridge to Ile de Ré now. 8 euro toll. Island is pretty busy and commercial at east end, gets better / more rural the further you go west. Was there a couple of weeks back. No obvious nude beaches. |

"Cap d'agde! ??????"
Well we don't mind visiting a nudist beach but wouldn't want to stay in a nudist resort.
Like cozy quiet places, from everything we have heard it's completely the opposite.
Our ideal site.
Mountain's, beautiful lake or river close by,wild swimming, maybe some water sport, cycling, bakery close for fresh bread.
Maybe a local bar within walking distance.
Sitting round a log fire at night drinking wine looking at the star's.
Then perhaps the odd days out to a local naturist area.
Perfect |

As well as the ACSI quide, there's the 2022 Le Guide Officiel Camping Caravaning which 8464 sites listed but doesn't seem to list naturist sites. Very comprehensive guide for the wandering traveller, like me! |
