"Hi, we are thinking of spending a week in Marseille in June or July and wondered if anyone had done the same and had advice, fab or vanilla. Especially interested in nightlife and how viable it is to ditch the car for the week and use public transport to get around the sights. " We have stayed in Marseille a number of times for a few days at a time (it is only 2 hours away from where we live) and stayed at the Holiday Inn, opposite the main railway station. Underground secure parking meant that we either walked or used the trams or buses. We managed to see all the sights that we wanted to, walked a couple of the calanques (spent the day swimming in one but be aware that the walk is quite long and you have to climb then descend twice so you need lots of water), ate well, enjoyed the bars and enjoyed the restaurants. The hotel is pretty easy to get to so even exploring further afield by car is not a hardship. Have fun | |||
