Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone might have any thoughts on this.
A few years back I took a trip back to the town in northern France, near Valenciennes, where many years back I spent my assistant year. I don't have particularly fond memories of that year but since I was in the area anyway...
Now, here's the thing; several times I was aware of hostility from the locals. I can only think it was because I was wearing a dark blue and white hooped sweatshirt that day and maybe that was similar to a police outfit or something. I don't think there was any football rivalry involving those colours. Still, a puzzle, unless my assistant year made a worse impression than I thought...

You do not offer enough information for the detectives among us to come up with some wild and wacky conclusions so if you could describe these three so called hostile episodes it could help!!!!

Wearing a blue and white hooped sweatshirt ? Did you have a string of onions around your neck and speak in a dodgy French accent ?
Maybe the locals were getting their own back for 'allo ' allo ? |

Well, sitting in a tram, I was rather glad the lady was outside otherwise I'd have been covered in gob. Enough detail?
And btw all it was a broad-hooped rugby style shirt (think Cotton Traders, not some onion-seller piss-take). |

I showed a French girlfriend a series of "'Allo Allo" and she thought it was a documentary |
