Does anyone go camping on here (other than Cap D'Agde)?
I have started to look at spots I might like to include for a tour on my motorcycle in June and wondered if others have similar plans.
My thoughts at the moment are:-
Privas (Ardèche)
Carcassonne
Andorra or French Pyrenees
Perpignan
Narbonne
...and probably near Toulon as I have tickets for the F1 Grand Prix plus accommodation at a local camp site. Unlikely that the F1 will go ahead with spectators but...you never know.
Just curious and my route can easily be altered.. |

Le Mas de Lignières is not too far from Carcassonne.
Beautiful, quite site with a nice pool and small shop.
Stunning views and great walks nearby and from the site itself.
Also some great rides out on the bike.
First trip there was 30 years ago on my old Beemer and still as much in love with the area now, but on my Honda.
Enjoy.... |

Thank you.
Campsites in France are usually excellent in my experience.
Great facilities, friendly and inexpensive.
I looked at Black Diamond last year - nice location. I also read the review on here which was very helpful.
So much choice - I also want to have day trips on my motorcycle exploring the countryside.
Lots of planning involved to balance interesting routes and good places to stop for a few nights.

If looking at the ardeche, check out la sabliere naturiste domaine. It’s in the most amazing setting on the Ceze river and gorge. The staff are brilliant the pitches nicely shaded and a great pool bar and entertainment... all pre Covid.
Some great biking roads too both Ardeche to the North and ventoux to the east ?? |

I live in Drome (26) so Ardeche is only over the river and know the area pretty well. Some lovely biking roads as you say hence my plan to base myself there for a couple of days. |

I love the balcony roads in the Vercour, I guess you ride them. Privas has a good campsite but it was a shit town to spend a September night in. Le puy en Velay is far better. Vallon pont de arc is nice if you're riding the Ardeche gorge, but usually I go down to Avignon, you can walk into town but the campsite surface is rock hard. There's a campsite in walking distance from the cité in Carcassone. In the Pyrenees I like Argeles Gazost at the foot of the col de Tourmalet and the col de Aubisque. The campsite there has the most amazing shower blocks I've ever seen. |

Thank you so much for that info.
Yes, I ride the Vercors often as it is on my doorstep. I also have a Ducati Monster which is perfect for those roads.
Familiar with Vallon Pont D'Arc and Privas but never stayed in Privas.
I will look at campsites near Avignon. If I can walk into the town then that is a great plus.
The route plan is getting better and better.
Thank you everyone who has contributed. |
