We can work from home though quarantine so still thinking of going. Only problem arises if french impose a quarantine themselves and actually enforce it this time.

10 times safer there than here!!!

Stuff Boris. He is the idiot who managed to get infected within days of the virus reaching the UK.

We will go unless the French retaliate in kind.

We feel much safer here in Creuse than at home in the North West.

Daughter is a bit upset that this will stop her getting 5 years 100% attendance at school.

Cap d’Agde, France

Typical knee jerk reaction from Johnson shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Here in France the government will wait until the end of this month to impose restrictions.

Two reasons: to ensure as many folk as possible get a holiday before new measures are introduced and to give the tourist economy maximum stimulation.

You can see why the U.K. is in the largest recession in Europe especially with this pack of amateurs in charge.

Amateurs that lifted restrictions and eased air travel just in time for the parliament recess to fuck off to their holiday homes or villa rentals abroad. Now back and making it difficult for the rest.

Im sure we can wait until next year for travelling round the world. All we're doing is continually spreading it around. It's a pandemic nothing we've seen before. Life is not going to be the same until a vaccine.

Costa Blanca Spain...

Before we get too carried away blaming Boris for everything, we have to remember he is stuck between a rock and a very hard place on this one.

The advice will almost certainly have come from Sage or PHE (or both) and also almost certainly via Whitty.

Both bodies will stick rigidly to two golden rules.

For all scientists rule number one is the science comes first. Even though it may (or may not) be flawed.

For all civil servants the golden rule is to cover your own arse first. Which they will do no matter what the consequences.

So just for a moment put yourself in Boris's position.

The scientists and civil servants are telling him that France is now too risky and should be put on the quarantine list.

He has two choices. He can take the advice and fuck up a lot of holidays or he can ignore the advice and carry on as before.

Just imagine the flack he would get if he took the second option then there was a massive spike in infections (and probably some deaths) traceable back to France.

The media would want his head on a chopping block and the Boris haters on here would be frothing at the mouth blaming him for every infection, death, and subsequent lockdown that would almost certainly follow.

Personally I think he should have taken that risk but I really would not have liked to be in the position of having to take it myself.

Bottom line is that he is damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

An excellent point of view and probably not far off the mark however, it is interesting how this goverment tends to do something like this each time they have another crisis.

This time it is the English grades - the press has suddenly dropped that story in favour of the imposed quarantine.

Coincidence or not?

I know where you are coming from and governments of all colours have got serious form for it.

However I don't think so this time. If anything they should probably have used the A level fiasco to bury the quarantine story.

Even as a lifelong Conservative I have to say that this government has hardly covered itself in glory on either issue.

Amazes us how surprised people are.

Anyone who is travelling knows full well they are taking a risk so don't complain if you're plans go belly up.

Everything is conditional and changes daily.

What the fuck do you expect the numbers are rising daily just like they were in Spain.Yes its an inconvenience but half of you would be moaning if we had to lockdown again saying the government should have shut down travel earlier.I think they are right and have learnt a lesson from the first time where they acted probably a week too late.

I'd have looked at the fact that a British Minister was meeting a French Minister Tuesday gone to discuss the Migrants coming across the Channel. As there has been no announcement of an agreement we can assume nothing has changed. Therefore last night the UK Gov. said "we don't need to be nice to the French if they are not helping us, bring on the quarantine".

We will go unless the French impose a quarantine. The European Health Insurance Card should cover us for any sickness and is an essential if you intend to go.

The government have made a total mess of the management of Covid-19. First they killed thousands by moving untested patients into care homes to "protect" the decrepit and inefficient sacred cow of the NHS which is no longer fit for purpose. They then, in panic from criticism in the media, followed the advice of quacks and charlatans like Chris Titty. This great public health official, was so good at his job that he was one of the first to catch the virus. I find his advice so reassuring.

To cover up the extent of the mismanagement, they are now desperately trying to convince us that they know what they are doing and really are in control so that we will go back to work and send the kids (who were never at any great risk) back to school. They have learned nothing and are crying "wolf!" so often that the really nasty bugs, that are almost certainly out there, will cause havoc when they strike.

They will only be shooting themselves in the foot if they do while the infection rate is lower here than there,it will kill any tourist trade they had.

Actually no!

The tourist trade relies heavily on the French themselves. Normally 90% of French take their holiday in France, this year virtually 100%.

Living in the Cap we have seen many Germans, Dutch and Scandinavian holidaymakers this year but virtually no Brits.

Most Brits traditionally go to Spain/Greece so there will be only be a very, very small impact on the French tourist industry should they decide to quarantine.
