***FRENCH ANNOUNCEMENT****
(Translated for those of you who understand little French)
This is the press release about Borders
June 13, 2020
Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs
Mr Christophe Castaner, Minister for the Interior
Given the favorable development of the health situation in France and in Europe and in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission presented yesterday, France will lift all traffic restrictions at its internal European borders on June 15 (0:00 am) ( (land, air and sea) implemented to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
From June 15, people from European countries (Member States of the European Union as well as Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and Vatican) will be able to enter French territory without restrictions related to the fight against COVID-19, as was the case before March 18, 2020. These travelers will in particular no longer be required to carry a derogatory international travel certificate to enter the territory French. For the record, people from the European area are also exempt from the fortnight upon their arrival in France.
By reciprocity, however, restrictions will continue to apply at the borders with Spain and with the United Kingdom:
Spain has chosen to maintain until June 21 its traffic restrictions related to COVID-19 as well as the requirement of fourteen for air passengers from European countries. In agreement with the Spanish authorities, France will therefore maintain the restrictions currently in force until June 21. Until this date, air passengers from Spain will be invited to carry out a fortnight upon their arrival in France.
The United Kingdom has chosen to introduce a fourteen-day obligation on June 8 for travelers from France. As of June 15, travelers from the United Kingdom will no longer be subject to entry restrictions linked to the fight against COVID-19 but will remain, until further notice, invited to observe a fortnight upon their arrival.
In accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission presented yesterday and inspired by the French proposals, France will also proceed to a gradual opening of its Schengen external borders from July 1. This opening will take place gradually and differently depending on the health situation of the different third countries, and in accordance with the procedures which will have been adopted at European level by then.
Given the challenges of university attractiveness, international students will be allowed, whatever their country of origin, to come to France and the arrangements for their reception will be facilitated. Their visa and residence permit requests will be given priority.
