Another bug in hotmail that easily allowed people to hack accounts. Yet another reason not to use hotmail:

In the past 4 years we have seen more hotmail accounts hacked than any other email provider.
If you're using it, we'd recommend googlemail instead.

yes you can configure Outlook to read Gmail, BUT Blueyonder (Virgin) is just Gmail in a wrapper. if you are getting hacked then check your PC for trojans that may be sending your password out to someone. |

Which one is the more modern version? I've just deleted my hotmail account and they don't make it easy!! Plus if you try and log on to check its been deleted, it reactivates the account so you have to go through the whole palaver of deleting it all over again . Ms |

Thanks J&T, what is odd, is that it is my secondary email addy that has been hacked, my friend looked at one for me, the hackers are piggy backing on it. I have changed the password 5 times now and still not worked, yet that was all the advice Telewest gave me
Run my antivirus religiously every Saturday morning, nothing has shown up at all yet it always does if something is going on. |

People who use Gmail for the email processes have been told of a data security attack on the system.
Google has identified the breach, noting that the incident looks to have been orchestrated by hackers in China.
Hundreds of users have been caught up in the attack, including government officials in the US, in a breach that circulated through a phishing scheme.
This method was used to access the accounts of users and then monitor their emails and change any forwarding settings that were set up on there.
As a result of the breach, the Pentagon has said that it is prepared to retaliate with force against nations that compromise the US' systems.
However, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman named Hong Lei pointed out: "Hacking attacks are an international issue. China is also a victim."
Recently, George Schlossnagle, the president and chief executive of Message Systems, told those worried about their email security to be aware of "spear-phishing", which has been affecting firms for at least the past year.
looks like Google is much more secure |

see PM..."
Antivirus does not always find the problems.. You need added security like for eg. superantispywear/ spybot search and destroy as these find non virus. Also programmes such as ccleaner (crap cleaner) All of these programmes must be updated and run regular.
NEVER open any link from a known source or not, they could hve been hacked, or compromised in some way.
Lastly use a secure password, not your grannies maiden name, be obscure, add charecters and numbers also to make passwords even harder to crack. For e.g. Instead of Iluvfishing have?
1luvf1shing@*987
This does not just apply to hotmail BTW it applies to any site you join. Good luck XxX MT

This is an (ancient) description of a "phishing" attack, not a hack on gmail. The two are different.
