I know this has been brought up before but I've not seen anything recently. Would it be possible for an option to be put on where people can choose to be invisible when they log in? Most chat programmes have it and a couple of forums I belong to also do. I know this is primarily a site to meet like minded people and it probably sounds unfair to deny the members of my presence (lol) but sometimes I just want to peruse the forums and not have to deal with messages. People can get quite rude if I don't reply immediately and sometimes I need a break.
Pretty please? |

Most people use the "hide profile" option on privacy page to do this. It's pretty much the same thing.

Yes but i know what she's getting at. Even if you hide your profile your friends can still see your online and then you have to answer loads of questions about why your profile is hidden..creates extra responses when you'd just rather literally be invisible. |

As boobalicious said, it doesn't stop my friendslist messaging me. I'd rather not have to tell them to bugger off because I am in a grumpy mood and just want to trawl the forums. |

I would love the option of being able to do this as well at times |

Here is a previous post.

That was over 6 months ago an no result as yet despite admin saying they were looking into it for a future update.
When does 'future' mean? |

I would log on more if I had the option to 'not show as online' 'stealth' or any other title/label'.
Logging in, for the forums,or other, puts you to the top of the search results, hotlists and what not; it could also stop the 'she's logged on but hasn't responded to my mail' complaint |

If its not happening anytime soon, why dont you just make up another profile just for "perusing and using the site" when you dont want others knowing you are online.
not the ideal option, but only thing available right now. |

Or hide the profile....this I do every Monday morning and early hours Saturday or Sunday morning if we are on. "
Nope hiding your profile doesn't stop you showing on others hotlist's &/or friendslists, just means any new people finding you off a search wont be able to see your profile.
Unticking what you are looking for, is a much better way of staying off search results |

"It works for us....so I am happy with hiding the profile "
Hiding profile does not stop you getting messages etc. As people have said earlier in the thread.. it wont work for them.
A new profile and block all contact is currently the only way to do it. |

simple enough to mention in your status that you are feeling anti social. |

I didn't say it did....I said hiding our profile works for us.
If someone does happen to mail after that it can be ignored if needed until we want to mail back. |

Great so messing up the stats with 'fake profiles' is the solution? ?
Chocolate & fireguard comes to mind.
What if we want to clean up our inboxes without getting new in, or catch up on our own forum posts? |

If you just want to keep up with the forum then you don't have log in to do so. Of course it does mean you can't post anything but if you want to fly under the radar whilst flitting around the forums its what I do. |

Hide profile doesn't work as people that messaged previously can still message |

Hiding profile doesn't stop messages , all I would like to do is log on without anyone at all including friends knowing I'm about. It would allow me time to clear boxes and more importantly allow me time to be a miserable moody cow who doesn't want to be bothered by anyone and I mean anyone until I am ready.
Actually loving the idea of a fake account which would ok not allow me to clear boxes but would allow me to be miserable when I want |

Having a fake account isn't the way to go as Admin would probably deal with it the way they deal with any fake account.
For me personally, I really don't know why anyone can't ignore any mails that do come in. I am sure even if you got them from friends they would accept that you didn't want to talk at that time, if they didn't then maybe they are not really friends. |

I think the best way of doing this is if there was an option to turn off the message button/tab, that way people can still be able to log on and not have to worry about receiving messages.
The way to do it would be that when people log in on their home page or settings page they can tick a box to say that they don't want to be sent any messages |

That would be a great alternative. |

When you log in just change your messaging filter to "no single men, no women, no couples, no aliens, no men pretending to be women...." That should stop you getting messages until you're feeling talkative again...
If the site added an invisibility cloak, most women and couples would use it (much like the way they all hide that they've looked at my profile....) I'd log in to see 20,000 single men and think I'd joined the wrong site (and most of those 20,000 single men would be unlikely to renew their site support). |
