Site idea: Minimum first message length
Jump to: Newest in thread
It could be helpful for many of us to have the option of setting a minimum length limit for the first message from others that we've not messaged before. It could encourage improvements in the quality of the messages sent/received and possibly the percentage of messages that get read/replied to.
Fab couple have a default minimum size or users could specify the minimum size, when clicking to activate this, as the optional feature that it would be. Anyone could thus choose to continue as now, if it didn't appeal. It might also be a site supporter only optional feature.
Why? It can be exasperating to get loads of messages saying 'Hi babe' and little, if anything else. Whilst such possibly silly attempts come from someone who'd never be a match, it would still be better to either deter such contact from someone who's not going to communicate more fully, or instead to influence any first contact to have more thought invested in that first message.
Obviously not a panacea, as long messages may be full of horrific content but on balance likely to act as a good filter option. |

What's to stop copy n pasting your own profile, just to get the required amount of words or sentences into the message.
No,bad idea in my opinion.
A much better idea is when you respond no or no thanks, you hit a button,it stops the other person from re messaging again for a set time period,be it an hour,a day a week, whatever
No need to block |

"What to stop
Hi Babes, xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx xxx?"
They could do that but a minimum message length could also stimulate people to reconsider the dross that they were going to send.
A site prompt could state something like -
USERNAME is preventing you sending a really short message, as they prefer you to include more details
It's not that short first messages are bad, that every user would have to block them as it could be optional but that longer messages are probably going to be preferable and thus reduce some of the message ping pong or ignoring that occurs.
Perhaps a user who blocks really short messages could write their own help text that pops up to the writer. What would yours say?
Would you use this short first message length block?

Whenever I take a chance and message someone (which isn't often) it tends to be relatively short.
I know that the majority of women will look at my profile and make a judgement call before even opening the message.
I'm not afraid of putting effort in, but I'm realistic in knowing I'm unlikely to get a response. |

I prefer hi or hey to watch me wank lol I have a small inkling on here from the few forum posts about it, that guys have a hard time in the message front. So though a first message really should have a bit of effort put it and personal to the profile, I get why some guys do just say hey or hi..I still usually check profile out..but if thst hey or hi has a cock pic attached to it, that's a different kettle of fish. |

I would rather a short message I can ignore than a long piece of badly written erotica or description of what will be done to me. Ignoring is easy. Finding the eye bleach can be hard work! |

"I generally write longish messages... I like to know I made an effort before being deleted unread! "
I'd love a deleted mail box. I only come on here using my mobile. Many times I've deleted something I havnt wanted to. You get the option pop up quickly to undo that but I dont always realise. Can have the sent box automatically deleted after a week. |
