Whilst in itself not a bad idea, the issue is around logistics:
1) What format is the file recorded/encoded in? (Various formats hold different sizes)
2) What resolution quality? (standard/high quality/Hi-Def?), again, higher quality means larger file size.
3) Maximum vid length (on average)
4) How many clips per account (1 for new? 2 for 1 month long? 3 for photo verified? 4 for meet-verified? 5 for site supporters?
5) All of the above 4 criteria.. multiplied (or average) by number of active accounts (lets say, last login is less than 2 years) for a measure of capacity.
Now, all of this on a live server, hosted and secure (you don't want people just downloading video clips randomly) means there's a cost attached.
On the other hand, it could be a separate (optional) charge, not part of but alongside the site supporter passes, ie, you can have this feature without being a site supporter,.. or be a site supporter and have it at a cheaper cost?
All optional ofcourse - but it might be on a 3-month subscription. Just a thought. |

Albeit a long time ago.
Although for users it would be a good feature, for the site it would probably be a nightmare to control.
A pic would take literally a second to accept, maybe a few more if it looked like it could break the rules… but it would take the full length of said uploaded video's for Admin/Mods to check its suitability for the site. For a primarily free site, is that a good thing?
Maybe though, there is way admin could let the videos be posted elsewhere and linked to from an icon on peoples profiles via a warning page that said 'the content your about to view is outwith Fabs control' etc

Whilst not inconceivable, the only issue would then be copyright and legalities.
Heaven forbid someone's home video made it to Fabs via attached link under pretext of "check out my short clip"... followed by some solicitors papers to Fabs admin office. |
