The forums here are a great feature that I enjoy taking part in. However frequently they become frustrating to use. The fact that it is verboten to post links is a particular bug bearer of mine.
The ability to direct fellow users to the source of information you are introducing to the discussion is essential IMO. Obviously spam and self promotion has no place here, but I feel that the current rules stifle* proper discussion amongst members.
I know that setting up something less restrictive than what we have at the moment would pose problems and would require some work. But with the number of members that Fab has it could become something quite impressive.

Not that, get your mind out of the gutter!  It was actually in relation to the politics board. People asking for sources when discussing something. I didn't actually post any links at all, just thought it would be useful but something in my mind told me that there was a blanket ban.
I'm Sure I got a temp ban once because of a link I posted, but it was ages ago and can't remember what it was. In retrospect maybe it was something and I have just presumed it applied to all links. |
