Underwhelming development
Jump to: Newest in thread
Just reading the latest feature added to fab, and then looking at the last time admin posted about an improvement.
It’s been quite a while!
I have to be frank. Whilst they might be good features for whatever reason, I don’t see much development going on.
As a paid member who has put a lot of money into fab over the years, amongst many of us, there appears to be little return on the development side.
Granted there is maintenance of the site, which I have no doubt is continued.
But admin seldomly post an update and quite often or not, I don’t see anything based on some fantastic ideas. No acknowledgement! Even simple, but effective changes appear overlooked.
It would be fantastic if admin could communicate a bit more.
I appreciate that you may want to hold back on a roadmap and not share information with competitors for future developments (if this is such a case), but implemented changes, it would be great to see a change log.
People have been commenting on improved categorisation and searching. All of this is easy to implement, as the code (and fields for the most part) are already in place. Just the values missing.
With an agile approach, little sprints could be set up to get these changes in fast.
I say this because despite lack of visual updates, I do like fab and want to continue to support it.
But I do fear it is falling behind on the product itself, which is a shame when they are obviously on the up if they need more photo administrators. |

Nice to see some direct input from admin, much appreciated. Also appreciate that's it's impossible and often impractical to implement everyone's bright idea. Lol.
I think the one that seems to come up over and over again is areas/regions search facility.
This thread seems fairly typical....

We would really like the ability to 'live' in France.
At the moment we have to 'live in the UK and state clearly in our profile where we really are.
The same could be said for many countries of course, but France and Spain seem to be where most swingers are if they are not in the UK...
Thanks in advance...

Me too - I split my time 50/50 between France and UK and would be nice to still be onsite - at the moment I have to hide my profile when in France because otherwise I get lots of messages from guys who don't read profiles. |

Would love some feedback on my idea, even if it's "never going to happen" lol.
As we help organise an event every year, would be great to somehow have a list of people who are coming, and be able to mailshot them all in one go, rather than having to copy and paste to each profile, maybe a second but separate friends list type thing that you could add people to just for that event. |

Thousands of times there has been asked a for a seperate category for transgendered people so they're not Lumped in with transvestites and crossdressers. That would be my number one suggestion. |

We find the username search fairly useless as it doesn't have any filters at all. It really needs the same capabilities as the advanced search (categories, age, location etc).
So many times failed to find people we've met in person on here because we only remember part of their username.

Group mailing would be an excellent addition.
This would be beneficial to those who organise group socials and gang bang groups.
Excellent idea. |

Thank you admin. Really appreciate the prompt response, and I’m sure I’ll be speaking on behalf of the many who are contributing.
I think the grouping/categorisation is the biggy and then being able to search on it.
An update on the regions (especially overseas) and gender are, from what I see, the leaders.
Just thinking out loud, there are photo administrators on the site. Would it be feasible to have a handful (maybe five trusted administrators) to create a change group?
Maybe quarterly, they can each pick one change request, and gather the communities view and create a short case for the change.
It then goes through discussion with yourself, and maybe if you have someone within your business who looks at the cost aspect, and another from a technical point of view.
Then it is either approved or rejected.
The administrator of that change request can then update the community whether it was approved and when it is likely to implement, or whether it was rejected and the reason why.
I’m sure ideas that are rejected based on risk vs reward aren’t going to be met with too much objection. At the end of the day, some things will outweigh the benefits and be to costly to implement, others will need a technical overhaul which isn’t feasible and will be detrimental to other aspects of fab.
Either way, I’m confident that the community will appreciate all aspects of feedback and feel heard.
Once again, many thanks for the response. Really appreciated! |

Can you allow an option to correct a post (for a few minutes) in case you miss the unhelpful autocorrect your phone or laptop suggested. I know I’ve done this a few times and rather than delete the message and repost with corrections, I’d prefer to edit immediately.
Allows for more actual replies rather than “message deleted by poster” notices.
Thanks,

Although I've done that myself I'm not sure it's wholly practical.
What's to stop someone writing an abusive post, then "editing" it to appear innocent.
Also, with the speed some thread conversation's move their could be a disconnect in the logic of replies.
It's a good idea in priciple, not sure it's so workable in practice.
I've learnt to live with my crap spelling and grammar. |

"Also make it much easier to change from single profile to a couple's profile without all the hassle especially if your a fully paid up gold member."
I'm sure there are some single guys who would love the chance to change their profile to a couple by adding a nonexistent woman, arrange a meet, turn up but the "Mrs" has a headache and can't make it.
Of course this could just be my cynical mind. |

No, I don't think it would!
Occasionally I go through mine and have a tidy up of people who haven't been on for 6 months. You delete one then get chucked back to the top of the list. A tick box would be great admin, thanks in advance. |

We are paid up members of other websites and, quite frankly, this site is ancient (wrt development/back-end)
Your current 'advantage' is the traffic you have but without moving forward you will eventually be overtaken.
The advice is simple.... look at modern sites and see what can be done wrt coding/features... or as a minima go through this section of your own site and implement the features your customers are asking for.
Unfortunately I see little evidence of important, non-trivial, features added over the last couple of years.
The site has its uses though and we will continue to pay even with the early 2000s funky style
Bottom line... use your own search facility and then invest in the site (employ a web developer familliar with modern techniques).
Best of luck.

I’d like to be notified of who has left/been removed as otherwise I’m left wondering who has gone.
The ability to search within my friends list would be helpful.
Also Scotland should not be treated as one region. It would be helpful if it could be split into 2 or 3 areas to help with searches.
There must be some way to stop fake profiles and from people having multiple singles profiles. This should be clamped down.
I’d like like to be able to scroll through all of my messages not just those that appear on the first page. I don’t alway want to delete some just to see the rest. |

Hi, would it be possible for messages from friends to be pinned so that they always (until deleted) appear at the top of incoming mail? Popular couples and single girls obviously receive zillions of messages and there's currently no way for them to distinguish between those from people they know they'd definitely like to hear from, and the random ones, and clearly many of the former effectively get lost in the mass. This would add a lot of value to the friends function, and remove much of the need for chats between people who actually want to chat to each other to be taken off-site onto platforms such as kik and Whatsapp. |

What about adding the ability to "subscribe" to forum posts so you get a notification if one of your topics/posts has been replied to?
Its a basic feature of most other forums and saves having to look though all old threads to see if someone has replied. |

Absolutely good idea I literally came on to post the same thing, it would be good to have a list of proposed enhancements and the most popular ones by a vote could be prioritized? |

Can you please put a function in to ban those who live outside of the miles I've stated I'm interested in?
I'm never going to travel further then what a stated and I never accomodate. So it would save those guys who lives outside of my mileage range from wasting their own time.
You have a filter for outside age ranges, so a distance one would be great! |

Honestly I think the admins have milked what they bought, and it's now showing through the lack of development how far behind it is, both technically and in UX
The new mailbox is horrendously buggy, and there are paging issues in almost every section of the site due to faulty logic. Not to mention the quite frighteningly bad login/password case insensitivity. And don't get me started on the other new features (e.g. the firehose everyone list) that have been panned quite broadly
frankly, I'd love a look at the codebase just to run some static analysis and I could probably find some quite glaring bugs just by code reading
if admin were to offer an NDA, I'm sure there more like me that would take a quid pro quo for services rendered

"Also make it much easier to change from single profile to a couple's profile without all the hassle especially if your a fully paid up gold member."
Maybe have every person sign up as a single profile (and get photo verified that they are what they say they are) then have a way of linking them together onto a 3rd joint profile as a couple. Verifications and photos from each single profile could be shown on the couple profile, and verifications made on couple can be displayed on the single profiles (with some indicator that it was given to the couple)
And when a couple splits, the couple profile can be deleted but both singles keep veris and friends etc. for extra privacy for photos to be kept by either single, they need permission of their ex via photo management to be displayed. |

Admin recently put up a survey so all members could voice their opinions on features for future upgrades - I hope you all took the opportunity to submit your ideas through that facility?
I am aware that not all ideas are actually practical or instantly available but am looking forward to seeing what innovations we do get, down the line.

Filled in a survey not so long ago - what were the results of that?
To reiterate
- meet today / browse meets & events results to be presented by GPS or nearest within 10/20/30 miles from postcode order. ESP when we already have to include the postcode when advertising a meet
- more advanced search features e.g. list non smokers who only meet non smokers, height, body shape
- more tags to identify vapers, 420 friendly / unfriendly / drinkers
- more labels
More checkbox searches compared to drop down e.g. someone bi might want to be able to search for straight and bi people, not just one or the other
More message filters - I am beginning to think my block list is bigger than my friends list
Forums to have the username of the respondents in quotes
Fab guys have a mandatory picture verify before a new profile is active. It will help reduce the unlos |

"Crikey, you lot are wanting a huge amount for a free site "
A good point....
I was a member of a site that offered nearly all of the above suggestions.
It cost me north of £30 a month.
It also had thousands of site generated "fake" female profiles which were used as a lure for single guys.

Been on the site since 2007 (had to create a new profile because of a stalker recently). Paid member from the days of £3 a month. A lot of the things suggested are possible with minor additions to fields and codes. Would be open to paying more just for slicker user functionality. |

We're "paid up members" but often feel that by far the best "value" in being a member on this web-site is not pay anything at all! Why, you may ask?
Well despite the hype about a "new mail-box" it was just a re-paint job of the old one . . and it is still "not fit for purpose"? It still seems this part of the system is only geared towards quickie messages, read and then discarded by BOTH party's? Yes, "subscribers" can SAVE MESSAGES, but when you have filled enough of the "page" you are using, older messages can ONLY be read if you delete messages in front of them!!! . . and if you delete any part of a message thread your "saved message" now starts to become corrupted!!!
We were using AFF over TEN YEARS AGO and ALL users were able to create their own folders and use their own filters to maintain them . . so why offer us this poor attempt Fab when others gave a good service even to their FREE MEMBERS?? ALL the main social media web-sites also give these controls . . is isn't rocket science, is it?
The ability to have big photo albums is also oft-quoted as an amazing benefit to "paid up members" . . well, like almost all UK adult contact web-sites, Fab are nervous to the point of running scared of the forth-coming implications of the "Third Amendment to the Digital Economy Bill" and it now takes super-human efforts to put up genuinely new and interesting pix . . we will NEVER use our maximum on here despite having 1000's of images to choose from.
So . . with those two major benefits not being anywhere as good as advertised our "FREELOADER" user has a free run in the site. They make your mail-box even worse by sending "one line messages", each one on a NEW subject . . so that if you DO want to try and save your conversation with them they simply clog up your "NEW" mail-box even faster. They have an even worse habit of completely leaving the web-site on a say a Thursday afternoon but return with an entirely NEW identity on Saturday morning . . and whilst they remember YOU the latest "improvement" to the system now means those earlier messages you saved have been DELETED by the bloody system!!! So . . off we go again, more wasted mail-box storage!!
Maybe ALL "paid up members" should take another leaf out of the FREELOADER's use of this web-site . . you can advertise yourself for FREE . . simply stick your mobile number in your profile, your status even, along with your "Kik or twats-app" user-name and encourage other to follow you elsewhere!! Yes, Admin, any subscriber web-site needs to give those considering joining a "trial experience" but your amazingly generous business model actually let's these users - NONE of whom care one toss about your business model - take the food out of your mouth, both by directly curtailing new funds and indirectly by pissing off the subscribers too!
So why do we continue to pay? We believe in a fair trade and know there is no such thing as a free lunch . . but it's long overdue Admin that you did much more to separate those who give you money from those who take money from you?
That your web-site is still the most efficient, genuine and popular amongst others means you can build upon success . . go on, be bold! |

It would be good if the search criteria were county based and not region based with the option to choose as many counties as you wanted. I’m in Brighton and the south east region goes up to Oxford. Not very practical. |

What type of search are you doing? E.g. meets? Other?
The region based search on meets will be replaced by postcode/location radius search as on main search.

I think it's better to pay for supporter membership on the basis of the features as they stand, so any new ones are a bonus. Paying it also means that you will appear in searches where site supporters only are searched fo. Paying doesn't guarantee reliability but reflects the greater level of commitment to the site that most of us have.
A nice feature for new users in particular, would be them taken to parts of the site to highlight it and this could include tips, written by current users - short notes on what to do to be more successful (less bother to others).
I'd benefit from better physical representation of users and thus ability to search on physical build, especially of men. The description labels are a bit too vague - it perhaps would be improved with more data than height measurements added, alongside a few more labels that are more precise. |

1. When replying to a long string can the curse go to the end where one wants to type rather than at the beginning, thus avoiding the need to scroll to the end and often making a mistake in where one adds the comment.
I've lately just not replied instead of going through the hassel.
Such a simile thing too.
2. With the new addition of copious photos. Can a save button be located next to each photo that one makes changes too instead of having to scroll down to the bottom?
Thanks

when using message filters preventing people from categories single male, couples etc it would be nice to have a reset function to prevent those who have messaged you prior to the filtering especially if you have never replied to them.
having been on over a year and adding filters to all those not on the friends list i am still inundated with messages from the 100s+ of people who have previously messaged. fix to this currently is creating a new account which i dont see should have to be the case in order to prevent people from messaging when i dont wish to receive messages at that time.

I know that at the moment the way couples profiles are labelled, you can't distinguish which is male and which is female. Thus you can't search for couple- Male of X sexuality Female of Y sexuality because they're just A & B and A could be the male or the female.
I think that many, if not most, users would be perfectly happy to offer up some more information about themselves for improved searching facilities.
If it were me, I'd add more fields that were searchable to allow an improved search facility, then eventually retire the old version of profile data once people had switched over.
Or something a LOT smarter than that. But really you need as many search facilities as possible because there are a LOT of profiles and people have very specific interests. More kinks/interests being listed would be helpful to and I see people asking for that all the time.
A roadmap of features that are being developed would be great too (as would parity of development/layout on the other FAB site). |

Yes that's something i find a bit frustrating as you don't know who you are talking too. With my idea of 2 single profiles joining to become a couple profile the text could be colour coded to show who is speaking in messages or who wrote that part if their profile (eg blue for M and pink for F or any better suited colours)
