delete text in forums

would it be an idea that aswell as being able to delete what you have wrote on a thread... there was a way of editing it??? after writing a lengthy response to a thread, you think of something to add ... you have to delete the whole thing and start again ... think an edit button would help

We don't think editing on forums works particularly well because it causes more problems than it fixes, e.g. someone will post a long contentious message which people will respond to. The original will get edited and none of it then makes sense. It also makes things much harder for the mods.

If I feel the need to remove a post on a forum thread because it needs a bit of an 'edit' I use copy n paste.. ie. I copy the text (that i have messed up) then delete it off the thread... repaste the text and edit it then.

On extra long posts I use the preview facility.

Maybe these are a couple of methods you could use to edit your posts without resorting to having to write the whole thing again?.... and not cause any brain ache for the mods
